Van was a bad hire from the get go. Way to go Skip. The coach that soulda been hired is Baylor's coach. He went the easy route, just like he did with everyone else, except P.M.

Hiring Van was a mistake. They should have brought in an up and coming coach to take it to the next level (i.e. Matthew Mitchell at KY or Nickie Caldwell at UCLA). They could probably have gotten a young energetic coach for less than they are paying Van now. The women's program had built a nice base and had a pretty good season ticket holder group built up and some donors with some deep pockets, but that has fizzled over the past few years. I'm not saying it will ever be a big cash cow for the department like UCONN or Lady Vols, but it could maybe break even or at least not be the drain on finances to a huge extent. Van seems disinterested and the players over the past few years have lacked the hustle and grit of former LSU teams.

Thanks. I can't get that image of Leslie out of my head now.

Lose by 30 to UCONN in November, 4-3 on the season.

We are 5-4 on the season...so it is obvious you are more of a bandwagoner than true fan.

Everyone loses by 30 to UCONN.

I am most agitated by the jackasses here that won't let go of the Kim Mulkey situation. She is locked down at Baylor for a long time, and LSU is not "home" to her anyway. She is a nutty bitch and I am glad she is nowhere near the program.

This.

We had Seimone 2 years, Seimone/Sylvia for 2 years, and Slyvia for 2 years. In those 6 years, LSU went to 5 final 4's and an elite 8. (Save the comments about not winning a game at the final 4...they aren't relevant to this discussion). Those 2 players were Olympians, and we were blessed to have them. Olympians don't grow on trees. Uconn and Tennessee end up with most of the other ones. I don't think the program is circling the drain...we will most likely rebound and get to the NCAA's again this year, and with only one senior graduating, next year should be better.

Who cares? If women can play it, it's not a sport!

Wasn't she offered the job after Pokey left?

Just curious. I'm not excited about wanting her either. I wouldn't think she would want to be here after that exchange she had between herself and Pokey.

No. Only Van was seriously considered.

Yea, I'm a bandwagoner. That is why I brought the subject up at a time when they suck and are going nowhere because I don't care and disinterested. You want to disagree with what I am saying that's fine but you won't to make a deal because I stated the record wrong then go F yourself. And no, everybody does not lose to Uconn by 30. Baylor didn't. And when we started the meltdown we were at the same level as that program. So if you think everyone is losing to UConn by 30 especially teams that have a good program and are getting better maybe YOU should pay more attention.

Baylor was #2 when they played UConn.

UConn has whipped a lot of Top 10 teams during their win streak, except when they got to the NCAA Tournament.

tom, That's not what happened...get your facts right before you make an asinine remark. Pokey never had a relationship with a player she was coaching.

The falloff has not been fun to watch, but it should have been expected.

Absolutely.

Maximus,

Another uninformed comment. Until Title 9, girls were not encouraged to participate in team sports nor did many high schools have team sports for teenage girls. Plus, men & boys tended to view athletic girls different that the "cheerleaders" thus, the only girls who actively sought out sports were lesbian. So, if you look around women's sports and you see female coaches whose high school years pre-dated Title 9, I guarantee a significant percentage of those coaches are lesbians. So What? Statistics show that most sexual predators are heterosexual white men? Does that make all heterosexual white men predators? No! Point being...it should make no difference the sexual identity of a coach or what a coach does in her private time with another adult. AS to the women's program, until we get rid of Van, who thinks getting invited to the tourney is a wonderful thing in itself...who cares if we're competitive?! The women's program will continue to go downhill. The worse mistake made at LSU in recent years if the hamhanded way Skip handled the Pokey matter and hiring a coach who like Favre thought he could still contribute to the game. It's sad for all of us fans who love the Lady Tigers! My husband and I have had season tickets for over a decade and it's hard to watch.

Kim Mulkey is not wanted by LSU Women's bball fans for many many reasons! Let's just say this: Since Mulkey has been at Baylor, many many great Div. I jobs have come open and no one was calling her name? Why? There's a reason! Lastly, her best player, Sophia Young, had a jersey retired, attended the ceremony, and didn't speak to her former coach, Why? There's a reason!

Yeah, and who recruited Seimone and Syl? POKEY! What great bball player wants to come to LSU and play for Grandpa?! He doesn't even remain in the gym for practice for goshsakes! I know there's plenty of guys on this Board that demean women's sports, but there's a whole bunch of LSU fans that love to watch women's bball. We had teams that went to the Final Four 5 consecutive years no one had done that except UCONN...now we'll be lucky just to play in the tourney...& alot of us are pissed! Also, we have some good athletes, but for some reason this Coach can't get 'em to play up to their abilities.

which is what most people thought whenever he was hired. at his age, he wouldn't give a shite enough about the game to keep the program in the elite.
