I travell across the country in a semi. Believe me LSU has got a lot of respect nation wide. People now will come up and ask questions about the tigers. They know players names. There was a time when we were not any more recognized than say Ole Miss. Not anymore, folks all over know and respect us.

From my experience, LSU is not many people's favorite team, but very rarely are we disliked. I think if you look at the other top selling teams, they have a stronger backlash against them (witness the hatred of USC, which is not just an LSU phenomenon).
I've always gotten great comments from people when I'm wearing an LSU cap or something. Except when I run into Texas fans.

one of my bois was in vegas last summer and noticed a large entourage of guys playing craps and one of them had on a LSU cap. long story short he went over to talk to a fellow tiger fan and it happened to be 50 cent

There are still a few generations of folks who hear "college football" and think of Keith Jackson saying, Trojans, Buckeyes, Crimson Tide, Wolverines, Irish, etc.
If LSU remains near contendor status for a few decades, then we'll be one of the few that folks think of when they hear "college football".

We're moving up.
I am not surprised at all that Texas' brand is selling very well right now. It has ever since VY's championship run. Then I think some rapper wore it on the Chappell show and it became a trend.
The same thing is starting to happen with LSU, only we don't have as good of a logo as the horns.
We do the block lettering stuff, that makes a difference. Also, a lot of our gear can look like Lakers or Vikings gear, and if somebody has a disliking for those teams, they may be averse to our colors.

i'd guess we need another 10 years like the past 7 and we'll be moving into the top 5
some teams don't need that b/c of population (like texas)
some teams don't need winning at all (like notre dame)

Judging from the way the media covers it, Notre Dame still must be most popular. They Suck, yet they are mentioned every week on all media outlets. USC also gets more press than any SEC school
you people say shite like this like it's a conspiracy to somehow push these schools up
networks are based around ratings
whether you like it or not, USC and ND deliver ratings a whole hell of a lot more than LSU

My friend said that peeps were talking LSU up at the Dallas airport and my stepdad took the LSU hat I gave my mom and is wearing it fulltime in Kansas.

I work in a sports store in Nashville during the summer and LSU is our #4 best seller behind Tennessee ( obviously), Bama ( 3.5 hours away), and Florida. We sell more LSU stuff than Vandy.
LSU is top 6-7 and like most people say, only Auburn, Ole Miss, Bama,Oklahoma, and USC really hate us. Everyone else somewhat likes us from what I can tell.
You'd think USC would be up there, but I think we actually have a larger fan base than them, they just have more national draw since their the only team on the left coast worth a flip.

man it's funny how 3 years later after a 2nd national championship this topic gets lukewarm responses when compared to when i made similar threads in 2004

If LSU faces off against USC in a BCS bowl game in the near future, a win could be HUGE for brand recognition nation wide.
To the everyday college football viewer LSU is 10x potentially more likeable than USC. USC can easily be seen as naturally well to do, while LSU is more of an everyman's type of team. I think that means something to college football fans since most colleges draw support from suburban and rural areas, as opposed to the urban support of NFL teams.

The SEC deals with CBS, ESPN, and Raycom will do quite a bit towards LSU's national image. More people will be watching the SEC than ever before.

I travel throughout the US and these are the things that are mentioned quite often about LSU when speaking to college football fans in other areas of the US:
Loud stadium from watching night games on ESPN. Is it really that loud is what I am asked?
Cannot believe how big and fast the LSU players are.
The field looks awesome, is it really that nice looking in person?
Two other things that I have heard, which are funny:
Heard the LSU fans turned over an opposing team's bus with the other team still on the bus
Everyone carries bottles of bourbon into the game and throw the bottles at the opposing team and their fans
