I am talking about the administration, not an individual program. I find it poor timing and even worse judgement to:

1.) Increase the length of Miles' contract and buyout
2.) Increase by approximately 200K, Alleva's salary

This takes place while LSU's football program is dealing with active police and NCAA investigations and is found guilty of a major NCAA infraction.

Not the best endorsement of the judgement and intellect of those in charge

A lesson to those on the board that woke up and it was already year 2000.

This is the best of times for LSU athletics. I'm afraid that once this age is over, many of you will look back and say to yourself, "I wish I would have enjoyed the moment more", instead of constantly worrying whether LSU has started a long term decline. It will decline one day, but finishing the way LSU did last year and with the freshman that was added, I just don't see the decline happening now. This team is better than 2000.

The success LSU has enjoyed in football recently provides gratification that some fans never get to experience.

I agree with what you wrote. The problem is that there are a ton of late comers due to age or just jumped on the bandwagon in 2000. Either way, they don't remember or know LSU from 1970's - 2000. They don't remember LSU having a decent season but abslutely shitting the bed in the bowl game. They don't remember the half empty stands and the pathetic scene at the bottom of the hill in the late 80's/early 90's. They don't remember LSU fans being the running joke of the other SEC fans because of how cocky and passionate we are but our team never could seem to throw it all together when needed on a consistent basis. Sure, we would have an amazing unexpected win here and there a la at Bama 1993 or those dreaded almost wins (for at least a half) a la USC 1979, FSU 1991. But we never did have the consistency that the football program has now.

They missed that whole period of LSU football. So it's really just an issue of ignorance more than anything else.

Even since 2007, most LSU fans (myself included) would have given our right ball back in that period to be as solid and consistent as we are now.

Revisionist history...

In 2004...

- Coach on his way out after playing the administration nearly every year he was here with going to the pros

- Pathetic couple of years recruiting the o-line

- Problem players on the roster: X Carter, Nick Child, Jeffrey Jack, EJ Kuale, Shawn Jordan

The 04 team finished with 3 losses and beat 1 ranked team (at the time played). Last years team finished with 2 losses and beat 5 ranked teams.

Yes, the LSU program is in terrible shape.....they just finished #8 in the country last year, and are currently #4. Some of you people just aren't smart enough to figure out how good miles is doing with this program, from a winning perspective to a class perspective. He cannot control every player on the team, nor can any coach. Posts like these are either obvious attempts to flame, or from young college aged kids who have no clue about how a great program is run.

This x 1000.....most, not all, but most of all this crap comes from college aged kids or bandwagon fans who absolutely have no clue about the ups and downs of all programs. LSU is going through a GREAT period for football, and it is ashame we have all these idiots that can't enjoy the ride....they will understand what we meant one day.

in addition though, there is a small group that are critical of literally everything about the school and the program. They hold them to a standard that has never been the norm, and never will be. Many businesses are like this as well, and most of these folks have never achieved much themselves. It's easier, however, to hold someone else to a high standard vs. holding yourself to the same.

This contract extension has been in the works since the end of last football season. Really not a big deal. And I'm happy with the direction and future of the program.

There are definitely cracks. Any FBS school is always one story away from an NCAA investigation, so that's hard to hold against the current leaders. My biggest complaint is that we haven't won the West since 2007. Granted, Alabama and Auburn were winning national championships during that time, but a little more offensive production and LSU could have a few more rings.

I was at LSU in the late 80's and remember vividly the decline. Baseball and basketball helped us forget the disaster that was our football program.

The purpose of my post is that I feel as though the leadership that is in place today are making decisions that will accelerate the return to that era and make it awfully expensive (scholarships and buyouts) to return to this level.

Another slow day at the windmill?
Hey I understand your anger. Miles makes tons of money and you have to survive on tips from kid birthday parties.

It's probably the proactive way LSU has handled these situations that led the administration and others to feel that it was necessary.

Recent events may follow what appears to be a lack of discipline in the football program as evidenced for play execution.

Our play execution has been less than disciplined for years under Miles.

The entire situation makes you wonder.

Ironic that the guy in charge would get $18.7 million if he lays a huge dump this season. Miles could have a 6 - 6 season and we could not afford to make a change. At that point, who would think we are a contender looking at his record the last 4 years which coincidentally happen to be after all the Saban recruits graduated?

We officially have the worst fanbase in America. The same people that have hated miles, Will continue to hate him regardless.

Big game coming up, team needs support, and we have a bunch of self loathers on here complaining about a coach that has won 62 games in 6 years. Coming off another 11 win season and has the team positioned top 5.

What a bunch of miserable pussies.

Damn I hate that sloppy discipline caused LSU to win over 60 games in the past 6 years don't you?

Sigh. Get over him. He ain't coming back. Your man love is misdirected. He told LSU to kiss off and finally moved on to the NFL after at least three false starts while at LSU. He NEVER loved you or LSU. All LSU was to Saban was the next step. He ain't coming back. Grow the fu ck up.
