If you look at all the great college programs of the last 50 years you can clearly see a cyclical pattern of excelling for 7-10 years followed by a down cycle. Look at Miami , FSU , Florida , USC , Ohio St. , Michigan , Alabama , Texas etc and you will see this pattern.

I predict a good season next year with at least 10 wins but are we due for a down cycle?

And no I do not think we should fire CLM.

I don't see us winning a single game for months, to be honest.

Most of those program went through a major change (usually coaching) which effected them.

It didnt happen just because.

Sure. Just like we're overdue for a supervolcanic eruption.

What I'm trying to say here peeps is that LSU has been a top 5 program ( except for a couple of years ) winning 2 championships and playing for a third in the last 10 years. It seems every program cycles down from that type of sucess for any number of reasons.

Well, it'll happen for sure. Good things don't last forever. There will be another dark age coming. I just don't think it'll come for 10 years or so. With the current coaching staff, tradition, talent, and recruiting we have going, we'll stay relevant for at least that long.

But, in the meantime WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

You sound like you want a legitimate answer.

I see no reason to think we're gonna cycle down.
We had a pretty good recruiting class.
We will keep most of our great players.
Our QB situation will be at least twice as good as it's been for the last FOUR years.
We have an excellent coaching staff who won't run from adversity...and don't look like they're going anywhere any time soon.
And we have a team with a massive chip on their collective shoulder out for blood next year.

It would be stupid for anyone to count LSU out any time soon.

I think that we've had our down years sprinkled in the past decade or so, as you mentioned. However, barring some sort of scandal, I don't think we are going down anytime soon. I think not only LSU, but the SEC, has proven to be the premier place for competition. Not only that, but we are in the high percentile of money, which is base of our power.

Correct. The great thing about college football is that success brings more success; the rich get richer. So, like you said, barring some crazy scandal, major staff change, or something like that, LSU is here to stay.

From what I can tell, Les Miles runs a clean program.
That's one of my favorite things about him.

No.

Look at the record of the last five seasons. See if you can spot a trend.

Damn I hate threads like these.

Nothing bad is going to happen.

I get annoyed with these "fans" that just have to start ridiculous threads like these.

It happened in 2008.

I expect an LSU "down cycle" to be like an Oklahoma "down cycle" while Miles is still at LSU. The difference between the programs is LSU doesn't rely on TX talent to stay in contention.
