How about you name the player that got toasted by Tebow's "take one step toward the middle of the line then step back and throw a touchdown pass" bullshite at Florida in 2006? I'll give you a hint: it wasn't a senior, junior, or a sophomore.

Not sure how this factors into the whole thing cause no one said fresh don't make mistakes, even Sr's do.

Given his lack of good experience even in HS, Morris Claiborne should never have sniffed the field last year as a third CB above guys with previous CB experience at LSU. Not if you believe seniority rules over all at LSU. Hell, Allen lost his redshirt opporitunity when Crowton and Miles mistakenly played him as a Fr when they shouldn't have.

Whoever the coaches think will play the best, will play. To answer the question, who knows if Eugene instincts are good enough to hold off the more talented Loston for the entire year. But is it easy to forsee Eugene as being more prepared? Yes. Eugene may be undersized, but he tackles very well for his size.

So you're admitting this whole freshman obsession thing is slightly overblown?

I remember Loston from one of the big All-Star games two years ago. Guy is the Real deal, I'll be surprised if he doesn't own the safey position soon.

Last I heard, Loston was gettin burned a lot in practice because he bites on fakes. He needs more discipline to start.

Guy is a BEAST, it's just a matter of time. He impressed the heck outta me in that All-Star game.

No I was saying the best players, whether Fr or Sr, make mistakes.

I also do recognize Miles plays freshmen but he also has had some upperclassmen be on the field when they were struggling while not giving some underclassmen a shot, at least a legit one.

This was never about Fresh over Seniors; rather, Seniors over underclassmen. I've been guilty of doing the same as a coach. You just get comfortable with some players you have been around and knowing what they CAN do and sometimes it's hard to yank 'em when they're not and someone else can. It's a touchy situation cause to pull a starter is a damaging blow to their psyche and you may need them again.

I think it has more to do with learning the position than anything at this point

Easiest position to play in the secondary and he's been playing it unlike half of the defensive backs out of high school who are converted over and have to learn a new position aka Corey Webster and Chevis Jackson and Jack Hunt. I'm not buying that part of it. He might be a little hit happy, but damn, I am all for some of that because it's been lacking from 8 of the 11 players on that side of the ball.

He's also had underclassmen on the field that struggled. I agree that he gets attached to some players, but I don't see enough evidence to support the foolish claim that he leaves better players on the bench in favor of a senior just because he is a senior. Do you think Danny McCray saw too much time as a junior or senior? I can understand it if you thought that way. But the inconvenient truth is that he played a ton as an
underperforming freshman and sophomore as
well, and in front of some upperclassmen to boot.

I think benching K Williams after a 70 yard run vs. Auburn in '07 and then Scott after gaining over 100 in the first half vs. UK might be a bit of a reason why some of us believe Miles is like Chollie Mac with the older players. Why was Keith Zinger playing so much in '07 over a much more talented sophomore in Dickson?

Safety is not the easiest position in the secondary when it comes to learning responsibilities and assignments. I'm not saying it takes 4 years to learn it or anything though.

So you're saying corner is easier?

You think free safety is the easiest position to play? I disagree with that.

From a responsibility and assignment standpoint (which is clearly what the original comment was referring to)? Yes, corner is absolutely easier to "learn".

In the secondary? YES. It does depend on scheme, of course.

MOT, CB is definitely as easy to learn, but to PLAY...the best athletes on the team play CB. ANd they also have to be the most thick-skinned, as 2/3 times, good corners still lose.

I'd say it's the hardest of the 4.

No shite, CBs have to be incredible athletes, but nobody mentioned athletic ability. They mentioned "learning" the position and safeties have much more to "learn" than corners do. It really isn't even close.

I think this is a learning it vs. playing it mix-up. I played both in HS (just saying...not trying to go back to the glory days or anything..just my .02) and safety was by far easier for me. Our coach was also a former JUCO coach so we were semi-complex, I'd like to think.

I won't pretend, however, that I know what it is like to play in the secondary for a major 1-A school for a respected d coord. So, perhaps safety is harder in this scheme. Or, perhaps people are just in the mood to debate for no reason tonight. The sky is not blue by the way.

That's not true at all. Corners have TONS to learn. Both positions do, but corners do a lot more than have to know cover 2 or cover 3/ jam or play 8-10 off.
