Oh, I guess you didn't understand what I was saying. I wasn't speaking about the team's preparation. I was speaking about "the rant's" anticipation. I'm sure they prepared for Yates to play great (or at least they thought they had).

Same way Rick Clausen played against us in 2005 right despite being shite the rest of the season?

Didn't say Yates would play great the rest of the season. Just said he played great as compared to his past performance this past Saturday.

We had them on the ropes, but they got energized after that 97 yard TD and got into a scorching rhythm. It was our turnovers and penalties on offense that fed the monster. If we had cashed in on two of those three or four legitimate scoring opportunities in the third, we aren't discussing this today, because UNC would have folded up. When the Tigers let them hang around, they opened themselves up for it. The fact that UNC had almost a full 10 minutes more TOP didn't help either. At the point where we should have been putting the scrubs in for garbage time, we had our starters back out there trying to preserve the win.

That game can be played both ways. UNC was a dropped pass in the endzone away from leading 14-7 in the second quarter. Luckily they had to settle for the field goal, followed by a quick touchdown from Shepard I believe. What ifs go both ways.

Is everyone discounting how well UNC played during that second
half? They played pretty damn good and Yates played lights out. NO one could have expected Yates to play that well or the backups (and in some cases the backups backups) to play that well. They looked pretty damn good. IF they can get their team to play like that, they could still challenge in the ACC.
Not an excuse, we should have still won handedly, but UNC also played well. Too many are caught up on the whole roster adjustment rather than looking at the team that showed up.

Pretty much I think. Yates is a 5th year Sr. who played like one. Their Oline was intact and could not contain the LSU pass rush for much of the night. Thus UNC resorted to a lot of 3-step drops and roll-outs when they wanted to go deep. Yates and his receivers did a good job, bottom line. Remember that the LSU defense was much younger than the UNC offense and they made just enough youthful mistakes in the secondary to make things exciting. A few games in that young bunch will not be burned so easily. Heck, maybe even next week they'll have things tightened up. Francois actually looked like he improved quite a bit by the games end. On the other hand, without the 5 turnovers, JJ's sack blunder and a couple of very questionable calls, the game is a full-fledged route. Their is a lot of upside with this young of a team.

I give NC props for not giving up and getting back into the game. I know to really see how good of coaching a team has, is by the adjustments they make at half time. Apparently NC's Offense made a few at half. That is what concerns me about Miles and his staff. He has never really made great adjustments at half time. Start watching for this over the next few games.

Kid looked like a star in the 4th quarter because our genius DC that gets paid too much decided to play zone with our DBs 10-15 yards off the line of scrimmage. All they literally did was dink and dunk us to death.

It was typical for Chavis and nearly cost us. Hell, when Pellini pulled that shite against UT in 2005, the defense revolted after that game and forced him to switch his tactics and we ended up with the #3 defense in the country. Hopefully, Chavis gets ripped by the players like Pellini did.

I'm not necessarily trying to harp on "what ifs," as much as trying to point out that first game mistakes opened the door for UNC. To their credit, they took advantage of them. I realize they made some, as well. I guess I am looking at the upside. They are all fixable mistakes, and if they do get fixed, LSU will be a better team than last year, especially on offense.

If I was Less Miles and I was on the hot seat I would tell my coordinators that against a team like UNC with 13 players suspended that we have to win in a very convincing fashion no matter what. Hence, even though you are going to be tempted to give young people experience, don't do it unless you get it approved by me, because I must win this game no matter what in a very convincing fashion. Moreover, I would have also told Crowton to keep on attacking until I tell you to call off the dogs.

There is no plausible excuse for giving up the big plays we gave up and for letting them back in the game. Hell, in the second half NC was forced to play walkons who never dreamed they would actually be able to ever see the field. There is no excuse whatsoever. We have 5 and 4 star players and they had walkons. Hell, Less Miles is extremely lucky we didn't suffer a loss because those last two passes were catchable, especially that second to last one.
