Not a great hire. This was Miles man from the beginning, the two weeks of leaks was to make us feel like there was some thought put into this hire. Miles wanted this guy on his staff since 2012, but could not fit him in after he brought on Corey Raymond. No one could have changed Les's mind through the charade of the pseudo-interview process that went down.
It is both funny and infuriating that in all likelihood Brandon Harris wins the starting job and kills it but the defense under Steel gives up 38 pts a game and we still lose 4 SEC conference games.

LSU got the best fit
I'm curious, what makes you think he was the best fit?

Honestly I dont agree with the hire. This man has to win over the fan base and this goes for the head coach and AD. Miles has got to turn it around fast or resign. There is nothing more he can say, just go and win

a choice made with wisdom and intelligence....of course just look a few posts above you and there are already dumbasses claiming our defense will be 90's like....lol. I tell you, I know that the average score to get into LSU on the ACT is around 25 or 26, but given this board (largely composed of college kids) I find it hard to believe this is true......there are some real dumbasses on this site.

Recruiting
Player Development
Coaches Coach/ Special Assistant
I think Miles is after "added value" with this hire.

Same. I'm not happy with the hire. Hopefully he proves myself and a lot of people wrong.
Lets see how well he can recruit. And what he can do with the talent that LSU has.
All aboard the ship... If it sinks or not.

Every team in the sec west and Steele are celebrating

No.
The three years before Steele, Clemson had the #11 (15.2 ppg), #4 (18.3 ppg), and #16 (16.6ppg) defense. Under Steele they went to 46th (20.4 ppg), 18th (18.8 ppg), to 100th (29.3 ppg).
And they were better after Steele as well.

How can you ignore the resume?
A resume is nice, but it's not the begin all, end all. I don't know if he will be worth a shite, but didn't he have a top three defense in 2008 at Alabama and didn't Saban think enough of him to make him a associate head coach. Plus, Saban brought him back as a position coach. Is Saban now bringing in inferior coaches to Alabama?

Terrible hire......and one that will eventually speed up Miles's exit

Other than Ed O there is no none better to recruit against Alabama and Nick Saban for players in LA other than someone who actually coached with him, knows their staff knows everything about them and can convince an 18 yr old that they would be better off not going there and choosing to stay in state. He can use everything he knows and experienced in his time there to negatively recruit against them while at the same time make the case for all LA kids to choose their home school. Sounds good to me anyway

By best fit, I'm pretty sure they mean he can whip up some mean sides while Ensminger applies the sauce

Yes the people in T-Town are celebrating in the streets!

me, i'm happy, happy, happy!

I think auburn just hired Muschamp, Texas A&M just stole Chavis from us, fricking STATE signed Manny Diaz, and we hired a defensive coordinator that was fired by Clemson after West Virginia hung 70 on them in the orange bowl. Not only that, our offense was the worst that it's been in a decade this past season so there isn't much room for the Defense to ease into form. I'm usually not one to complain or even worry, but this hire showed no sense of urgency and definitely no will to get back to the top. It's almost like we're coasting it in and saying frick it.

Yeah, I'm happy. He's coming off Saban's team. That says something.
