You can't use NIL to recruit period. That's a violation. You can't use money to recruit. That's a violation. Anyway you swing his comment that's a violation because it's recruiting pitch clear as day.

Can't wait to see Dick Vitale yelling for people to play the tapes on this one. I'm sure he'll be equally outraged about this situation, right?

That is a clear violation.

You don't think every school is doing the same thing? A kid comes on a recruiting visit and asks about the NIL program, what do you think he's told? It's just not caught on tape, so people don't have their gentle sensibilities disturbed by such tawdry conversations.

OF course but if Jimbo hadn't acted like such a bitch a couple weeks ago no one would care. Don't get up on your high horse and then have a coach get caught on camera talking about paying players a lot of money.

Where is that a written rule? I'm honestly asking bc if things like this continue to happen & A&M/Bama/Miami/etc keep getting away with it, then it's probably not a violation.

The NIL guidelines from NCAA that I linked to Dellenger's tweet only mention "Boosters" & potential student athletes (PSA). The closest thing I can see that would be a violation would be this, "Institutional coaches and staff may not communicate directly or indirectly with a PSA on behalf of a booster/NIL entity.", but even that would be hard to prove that he was speaking "on behalf of a booster/NIL entity".

Article 13.2 of NCAA Bylaws regarding Offers and Inducements for recruits says this: "An institution's staff member or any representative of its athletics interests shall not be involved, directly or indirectly, in making arrangements for or giving or offering to give any financial aid or other benefits to a prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete's family members or friends, other than expressly permitted by NCAA regulations"

Again, hard to prove that this guy was "indirectly making arrangements for a PSA" with his statement.

I'm just playing devil's advocate with these questions bc everyone's knee jerk reaction is "that's a violation, you can't use NIL to recruit", but is it really?

I may be missing some very important rules, but from what I see - A coach or staff member can't directly or indirectly make arrangements for payments to a PSA & boosters can't be involved in recruiting.

Can a coach say to a recruit "Boosters pay our players X amount of $/yr"? Would that be considered "communicating on behalf of a booster/NIL entity"?

I am correct that the NCAA can only punish the school and not the student because of the USSC ruling?

Correct, they are not going after student's eligibility if they do investigate violations.

I'm not so sure this is technically a violation. You can reference making money off NIL in general (ie "we have tons of corporations in town who pay our players a lot of money"), you just can't explicitly offer deals.

Obviously A&M is doing both but idk if this clip is enough evidence of the latter.

I am guessing that checks from this guy's wife's checking account weren't used.
