On a serious note, it won't be that bad unless you have young children who you don't want to see the debauchery. I'd go out in the quarter and have a good time. Girls love hanging out with gay guys, and I'd assume the homophobic guys will be scared to go out, therefore increasing the girl to (straight) guy ratio for you.

Now I know why all the rooms got booked in BR so early for the first game.
At first I thought it was because App was coming to town and all the LSU fans were so excited about the game.....Now I know they are escaping NOLA.

Makes no difference to me but now I'll be a little careful about the "women" I'll be chatting with. Don't want any surprises there either!

If you are secure in your manhood, go out and enjoy that crowd. Gays can be the most fun to hang around as far as party crowds and there will be a lot of strait chick tag-a-longs so if you play it right it can be an untapped(pun intended) resource.

It was a pretty thing, i thought

The sun came up when the night was over and i was still sittting at a bar window.

I can't believe i remember that night.

N O is crazy

I have bailed out someone 2 out of the 4 times i've been there. Its been 10 years though.

My wife and I went down to New Orleans Labor Day one year to celebrate my birthday not knowing this event was in town.

There is still plenty to do and I never felt uncomfortable in the areas we normally frequent when we do go. Now, it is kind of wild closer to the gay bars down Bourbon but nothing you wouldn't see during Mardi Gras - I would not bring your kids though!

if you are a tourist I guess you almost have to do bourbon, but there are way better places to party in NOLA.

If my memory serves me correct I think we are staying in a Marriott on or near Canal Street...so from the sound of it we wont be right in the middle of it...I am not worried about running into gays i just didnt want to be right in the middle of their party...

My suggestions would be to make reservations to restaurants outside of the quarter if you don't want to encounter any of the festival goers. Here are some good places to eat broken down be locales:

UPTOWN/Rivervend

JacquesImo's: funky vibe, where chefs go to eat in NOLA

Commander's Palace...no need to say more
Brigtsens and Clancy's: Very traditional NOLA style cooking. Definitely not going to be many tourists here.

Ignatious: cool new place, limited menu

Pascal's Manale: BBQ shrimp heaven...nuff said

Domilise's Po-boys....BEST FRICKING EVER!

Hansen's Sno-Bliz....real nola snowball...history

MID-CITY

Mandina's or Liuzza's...bout as New Orleans as you are gonna get. Bring Cash.

French Quarter/ Warehouse district:

Cochon: everything pig..good place

NOLA: in the quarter, best chance to get fed at an Emeril's rest. without breaking the bank. Excellent fare.

Dickie's steakhouse: if you must.

Redfish Grill: Good

Feel free to contact me for more advice. This is the tip of the iceberg, but should get you headed in the right direction.

You might be hit with a hurricane and flood. Some televangelists said Katrina hit on Decadence weekend b/c of God's wrath on the gays.

But God musta missed. Katrina took out St. Bernard, the lower 9th and Lakeview. Won't find the gays there. Not much damage in the Quarter and Marigny where they are.

Guess God hates the yats and bros more than the gays.

But anyway, heads up. He might try again.

So just heard that the weekend we are heading down there is the same weekend as an event called Southern Decadence. So we are going to be in New Orleans for the majority of our 4 days there. Is this event just a part of town or what??? Anyone with details please share!!! Nothing against individuals attending this event we are just going to try and steer clear of it...

I probably would just do what I was going to do anyway, unless you are bringing kids. Its not like they are going to hurt you or anything, you just might see a couple of things that make you extremely uncomfortable. Seriously though, you should be able to have a great time, the bars on Bourbon should still have lots of girls and the drinks will still be flowing. You can still see all the sites and whatnot, I wouldn't let that ruin my time. There are a couple of other events in N.O. that I would steer clear of, but I wouldn't care about this one.

I would still put Domilise's up against anybody in town. Parkway Bakery is the only place I would consider in the same league these days. Just my opinion.

But seriously man, you really won't even notice except to see gay men in your hotel lobby, Saks or walking towards the lavendar line (St. Ann). Gay men don't eat in restaurants (power bars only) and they don't go to straight bars.

And they don't party in the straight section of Bourbon.

Oh man. You'll have fun. Don't forget to wear chaps on Bourbon Street. I guarantee you will score...your football team won't be doing much.
