well the AD is there for the university, if you don't see that you are blind.

If we don't pay our coaches or build the facilities then we will have the same problem that we had during the Curley Hallman era.
Alabama is expanding their stadium and Texas just expanded their stadium.

We are going to have to gover 100,000 in tiger stadium to keep up with the other programs.

The universities donations and enrollment increase when LSU is winning championships. All of these are positive aspects for the university. Why do you think that Mark Emmert was so intent on changing the LSU football program?

What is Alabama,Tennessee,Georgia,USC,and others doing with their funds. What % are they giving to the academic side of the university.

You can ride the current wave of success into the ground and then we are looking at the athletic department trying to fund itself.
What does the university do if this happens.
If the university is dependent on 6 million dollars from the athletic program.

LSU is not funded by the state. I find it funny that a LA Lafayette fan can throw stones at LSU.
60% of LA Lafayette's athletic funding is coming from the state.
I personally don't want my money that I spend for athletics going to the university. I am giving additional money to the university. I give money to athletics so that I don't have to sit through 6 years of losing again.
The athletic department could give 50% of its income to academics. In 10 years, our athletic department would be at the bottom of the SEC and at the bottom of the national rankings.
Academics drives the ship. But, Athletics helps the ship go faster. Ask Southeastern that has readded a full slate of athletic programs.
If the university pulls more and more money from athletics then Mark Emmert's suggestion that we are living in the glory years will be correct.

So, should the university cut back on academic programs and professors before taking from the ath dept? In case you didn't notice, this nation is currently going through an economic crisis. Do you think LSU is the only major University engaging in these types of strategies? LSU has made significant progress from an academic standpoint in the last several years and it's not time to regress to the back of the pack. Like it or not the players are students first, athletes second (although many don't look at it like that). Unfortunately this money is only a portion of what the cut state from higher ed.

Surprisingly enough, that was a very good first post with some valid points. Although my opinion on the matter is different, I respect the opposing view. We donate to both sides and it doesn't bother me if the athletic dept helps out the academic side in a time of need. If that isn't popular on this board, than so be it.

Give to TAF. I believe those funds are insulated from the university.

If it isn't clear by these numbers that the university proper needs more support then I don't know what will make it clear.

None. But not because there aren't ANY students would use it. But the university doesn't have the funds to keep it open. Same reasons that until recent it wasn't open as late as other schools in the sec

how many would be sitting in Tiger Stadium without the school? How could LSU afford athletics if LSU becomes a sub-standard university?
