Let's talk about the leverage concept. Is it really weighted as much as people say? I agree there is some to an extent because of the "where else would you go" argument, but i'd be willing to wager teams aren't really looking at leverage when evaluating and drafting players from Junior to Senior year.

It matters a lot. Teams are always trying to save money to give to their top draft picks. They only have so much money total that they can spend. With seniors, they can just say "this is what you're going to get, take it or leave it". Underclassmen are basically guaranteed to get their slot value. Hess' slot is like $200k. He will get that if he signs. If he comes back and gets drafted at the same spot or even higher, he will likely only get about $10k (maybe a little more depending on the teams' financial situation) because the team knows they can save that $150k or so to throw at one of their other draft picks who demand it.

Yes, before whatever they are doing to these pitchers ruins his arm.

He's got a tough decision in front of him that's for sure.

No, he really doesn’t. He’d have been better off leaving last than coming back for his SR year. There is absolutely no decision at all regarding his pro future. Now, if he just loves LSU and wants to try to play in the CWS again, that’s one thing. But no decision, hard or otherwise, aside from that.

Hess is still wildly inconsistent from start to start. But we can work on that in the low-minors, where he can probably get a lot more appearances than if we returned to LSU.

Would love for him to work on that here, but it probably doesn't make any sense for him to do that.

Go now. He has potential but needs work on his mechanics.

I would give it a try just on the outside chance that my problems were due to Dunn’s pitch selection. But I wouldn’t expect much.
