As a retired police officer that was a hard read. I can't tell you how many parents I had to hold and deliver this type of news to. Seeing young lives snuffed out for no reason was one of the hardest things about being a police officer.

Thank you so much for posting this.
Lovely article, really pointing out how hard it’s been for our team this season, and how resilient they’re proving with help from the program.

I was at the funeral. My husband and I were seated near the front.
I viewed his body.
I touched his cold hand.
I watched Skylar completely breakdown when he saw Wayde lying there. People had to hold him up. He wouldn’t leave. He was talking to Wayde.
It was one of the most gut-wrenching things I’ve ever seen. To witness such grief was unbearable. Brandon Sampson led Skylar away and the whole team was there to hold each other.

I told his Mom I wouldn’t forget him.

My husband and I have “Wayde 44” printed on our LSU T.shirts to make sure we don’t.

No. We’re connected to the basketball program, my husband played a zillion years ago. We get to know the players a bit and meet their families. Sort of on the periphery.

Still heartbreaking to think about this. I know the season has unfolded better than any of us could've hoped so far but it's bittersweet knowing Wayde isn't here.

That's awesome that you guys do out of your way to connect the players and families.

Let's ride with wayde and wade to a national title this year!

Man what a tough read. No sugarcoating for sure. I feel so bad this team had to go thru this. Life can truly be unfair.

7 years ago one of my best friends who happened to be my boss/co worker for 8 years was killed tragically in a car accident. He was our fearless leader and we didn’t know how to move forward without him. And then we had to be reminded of it everyday while we pick up the pieces to try and keep our company afloat! Point is, I know this had to be very similar to what these guys went through and let me tell you it’s hell. I’m so proud of this team and the Sims family. God bless all of them. RIP Wayde.

Why would someone downvote this?

Thanks for posting.
It could be someone who doesn't want to upvote an article about someone's death. Or fat fingers.

I wouldn't read too much into it.

My heart breaks for them all — his family, teammates, friends and I think Mays the most (aside from his parents).
