Threw for over 200 yards yesterday against a pretty good defense. Just a couple of years ago, we would have killed for that kind of production.

I understand your point, but the fact is that we HAVE to throw. If teams are selling out to stop the run and forcing our hand, taking away the "threat" to throw will only allow the defense to further sell out and stop the run. The wildcat formation works if run as a surprise or if you have a mobile QB who can also be a threat to throw.
Take out those jet sweeps and we're not running the ball very well overall.

"Jet sweeps don't work in the SEC!"- Fire O, Fire Canada, Bench Etling
tRant

Our last two wins were based on just enough passing with some timely big plays and the jet sweep to account for the offensive production.

"All that motion isn't fooling anyone, they just tire out our OL and WRs"- Fire O, Fire Canada, Bench Etling
tRant

Without that motion and those jet sweeps those big plays would be limited, and not as timely. And I'm guessing we wouldn't have had enough offense to pull the last two out.

"Canada being in his first year is just an EXCUSE for CheeriOs"- Fire O, Fire Canada, Bench Etling
tRant

In short, without Etling and his senior-experience we may not have "managed" Canada's new (excuses! excuses!) playbook and motions and we would have seen bad reads, mesh points, and exchanges on motion-rushes (e.g. jet sweep). Not to mention would either freshman QB, dual-threat or not, have been looking for and hitting those big plays. Etling hasn't given us what we want, but he's giving us just enough IF the defense plays well. WHEN the defense plays well Etling and the offense does just enough big and small things to get there.

The alternative, this year with freshmen, would not be enough. Maybe... if this was last years defense.

[I know, I gave some credit to players here. Cardinal sin, I'm a DOTP (destroyer of the program) and the reason CEO was hired and still is coach because I dared to post things on this message board, which is not acceptable and I'm killing LSU. To make matters worse, I hinted at improvements and highlighted some good things LSU is doing... therefore I'm confirmed as a DOTP and must be banned. Because such things are not acceptable on this board.
Well fvck you, zero fricks given]

Etling looked better than Stidham yesterday

He made enough plays and that was enough to win

I hate to say it, but he gives us the best chance to win this year

Hopefully Brennan or Narcisse develop into studs

yep. And granted, Stidham's WRs aren't helping him as much as they could be (same could be said for LSU & Etling), but I did not see the super-accurate QB that he was hyped to be.

Actually he seemed lost looking downfield alot. While DE is a slow and sometimes bad field reader, he does NOT seem to be shocked at where his WRs are every throw.

Hell, it seemed like many times Stidham threw it like he said to himself "frick it, let's see what happens over here".

Ya don't think our DB's had anything to do with why Stidham had a terrible day? Duh, look who he has been running up his stats against.

Why do people bitch about Etling? Outside of Mett, it's the first time a qb averaged over 200 yards a game since 07.

Thought occurred to me just now...

LSU appears to use the jet sweep like a RPO. In other words, they are reading the DE (def end). Unlike a true RPO, they are basing that off of tendencies. If DE is pushing upfield, they'll run it with cut inside him because it's the same as failed containment (Taylor & Chaisson had same against MSU).

So with that in mind, are at least some of these at-the-line audibles by Etling? I suspect so.

So if that's the case, Etling made the read on the improper safety rotation on WR motions. They failed to get wide enough on a double motion by Gage.

I'm thinking it was Etling that signaled the double motion then called the hand off based on what he saw... which was a 70 yd run that led to our first TD.

A freshman would not have made that pre-snap read. And of course I'm still waiting for some "all that motion isn't fooling anyone" comments.

Etling is a big part of why we won yesterday. Dont really understand the timing of this post.
