Moneyg it would appear that this thread is hopeless, but none the less I will try to help pull it out of the land of the retarded.
1) The SEC does not decide who goes to which bowl.
2) All money is shared between individual SEC schools, even schools not in bowls.
3) Each bowl has very prestigious bowl committees that come together to try and pick the best match up for their CITY. They decide this based on potential commerce to be brought to the city not just for game day but for the entire week. Trust me, how well a fan base travels factors in big time when two teams have identical records. The committee will not push for a matchup that pits a team that is within driving distance, for instance. The reason being is that those people will attend the game and drive home. THey want people filling up hotels and restaurants for days before the big game. There is no conspiracy theory when it comes to LSU and which bowl they go to…we travel well and are very appealing to any bowl!
4) There are a few regional biases that come into play based on the "fan hood" of committee members. Like LSU in the Sugar Bowl and the Texas schools in the Cotton bowl. But other than that its all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Take it or leave it but my family has been on the Sugar Bowl committee for decades.

Honestly, would you blame them? Our fans wont even turn out for a home game, while A&M fans showed up in droves this weekend.

Correct. But the SEC office sometimes steps in and makes recommendations.

2005 and 2012 had nothing to do with anyone's "recommendations" except those of the bowl committees themselves who made their selections as they saw fit within the agreed parameters. This is just another narcissism thread.

LSU has traveled very well to away games for years. We usually travel well to bowl games, with the exception of last year. I think that if we get selected by either the Cotton, Gator, or Outback Bowl, our fans will show up.

Definitely, and those Bowl Committees know that. Here's the problem.

Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, and South Carolina are the top four SEC teams. Two of them will be in BCS bowls, and one of them will be in the CapitalOne Bowl. The Outback Bowl likely picks the one remaining team here.

Then there's the Cotton Bowl. If Missouri beats A&M, LSU likely goes here. If A&M beats Missouri and Manziel is going to New York again, the Cotton Bowl could probably pick A&M, especially if they can have a UT/A&M matchup. Then the Chick-fil-A Bowl picks, and they don't want LSU understandably, so that puts the Tigers in the Gator Bowl.

No doubt, we have benefitted in the past, but to think the SEC has no say at all is really naive.

quote:

The SEC protected championship-game loser Georgia by convincing the Capital One Bowl to take the Bulldogs; allowed the Cotton Bowl to choose Texas A&M over LSU; and discouraged the Outback Bowl from taking LSU (for a first-ever game with Michigan) to avoid a Chick-fil-A Bowl rematch between South Carolina and Clemson. Had the SEC urged the Cotton to take LSU over A&M — the Tigers beat the Aggies and are higher ranked — and sent A&M to the Chick-fil-A, it would have been a more equitable arrangement.

From the Advocate last year...but I guess Scott Rabalais made all of that up.

Well, this sticks out:

allowed the Cotton Bowl to choose Texas A&M over LSU
"Allowed?"

So yeah, I guess it's obvious that at least some of that is made up.

And the SEC was right to do all they did last year. It would have been dumb not to.

And I admit I was incorrect to say that the SEC never makes recommendations.

Maybe some. The SEC could have pressured the Cotton Bowl under the right circumstances, but the SEC office doesn't have the final say. I don't blame the Cotton Bowl. But the SEC office does have a role in this.

It's not like the Cotton Bowl needed any help figuring out that JFF was going to be a bigger TV draw than LSU last year.

That's just the beginning. Our fans will stop going to Dallas and Atlanta. And im not blaming it all on the fans, the school needs to stop playing these neutral site games where our bowls are. You want to play a neutral site game, do it in St Louis not Dallas.

There were plenty of people selling tickets (at face value or lower) for this game. I wish some of the people who sit at their computer and watch the game on tv would come support the Tigers instead of complaining about the crowd. It's easy to discount the weather, parking, traffic, cost, etc. from your comfortable couch.

I haven't missed a bowl game in over a decade and have been to more bowl games than many in here have in years of life.

My bowl ticket application has been submitted and I requested the Cotton, Cap One, and Gator. I don't want to return to Atlanta...won't go to the Outhouse for screwing over the west...think we deserve more than the Liberty, Independence, & Music City...and will NEVER attend a bowl game in Birmingham.

The SEC is not contractually obligated to sign an agreement with any particular bowl. If you don't believe they have influence on who plays where, you've not been paying attention to how they operate.

When talking about the SEC...fairness is not in the equation. They don't care what you've earned or deserve. They make decisions to serve their own interests...NOT the 12 institutions located outside their state's boundary.

As soon as we reach six wins I receive a bowl ticket application. I have supported the Tigers for a LONG time and put my money where my mouth is therefore I always get bowl tickets. I have followed the Tigers all over the country and will continue to do so but I'm starting to really get ticked off at the SEC HQ and the BS they continue to serve up.

I won't go to any function (bowl, baseball tournament, game, etc.) in the state of Gump. I've grown tired of them only representing the best interests of two universities and their home state. I'm not saying they go out of their way to screw LSU but I know for a fact they will sacrifice the other 12 schools to support their own self interests.

LSU compiles the application requests and uses the numbers as leverage to entice bowls into selecting us by a guaranty of seats sold. Unfortunately the SEC has additional influence (due to the bowl tie-in contracts) and can push a bowl to go with their self-serving plan instead.
