Agreed, there are plenty of idiots here, but someone having an opposing POV doesn't make them an idiot.

Why do you think LSU would have trouble landing a good coach? The reason we didn't have the pick of the litter last time was the piss poor timing of Saban.
You really believe that? Aside from Saban, out of all of the coaches LSU has hired over the last 30 years, how many would be considered a premier (top 5) coach at the time? Hell, Saban was almost unheard of coming from MSU.
People assume because we are LSU we go get who we want. Not so fast. We got lucky with Saban. Make no mistake, I am no fan of Miles' coaching, but we better be really careful before we get rid of him assuming something better will come running.

How has that hire worked out for them. If anything this proves that just because someone has had a good run at another school/conference does not mean they will have the same success at your school.
And you can look at Saban and Meyer and see that it does work out sometimes. Many of you make the argument that you are satisfied with where the football program is now and simply don't want change because their is an inherent risk.

I think you are absolutely right Doc. All it's takes is looking at the latest piece of journalism on the front page of ESPN to see that the media is regurgitating exactly what they've read on this site.

LSU underachieved at hiring coaches in the past, but that doesn't mean it's set in stone to happen in the future. Since Saban's departure the image of LSU has changed for the better (although it's beginning to regress again). We are perceived as an elite program with a helluva recruiting base in the best conference in the nation. A young up and coming coach that would relish the pay hike and the inherent challenge that comes along with it would jump at the chance.

A website has absolutely no bearing on the W/L record of the football team, nor on who would coach here. If you really believe that you are fooling yourself. There are at least 4 million good reasons to coach at LSU.

Who out there thinks that whoever is deemed to be "THAT" guy,has more than a 50/50 chance of succeeding. Its an expensive crap shoot that could go either way.

I can see both sides of the coin - LSU has the $$, the recruiting grounds, top class facilities, they are in the best conference, and whoever took the job would be loaded with talent.
But the perception from most qualified candidates would be that booting Miles (with his accomplishments at LSU) is a little severe and they may balk at the opportunity. But no one really knows what will happen until LSU has to cross that bridge.

I dont know if i want Les gone but he is a great recruiter yea he has had his ups and downs like the whole qb situation now but other than no complaints on the that he needs a better offensive cord but if we did lose Les Gruden would be an awesome choice

But how many of those great recruits are actually developing into NFL caliber talent?

Thank you Redfish. You are exactly right. We at least know what we have with Miles (not that I am not in favor of his replacement if things continue to digress). You fire a young up and comer who proved in over his head after three years and you instantly become a coaching grave yard. I am not for becoming the LSU of the 90s all over again.
Bottomline is this, Miles needs to tighten up or we could be in for a long ride. People better hope that Miles can get it right, the alternatives are not as sure of a thing as many believe. Saban was a once in a generation coach...we might not be so lucky next time.
As to likely successors...My wish list would be:
(1) Patterson
(2) Mullen, Pelini or Muschamp...
and, I think the likely replacement would be:
(1) Tuberville,
(2) Kirby Smart,
(3) Leech, or
(4) Nutt

Not very well so far, but that wasn't your point. Your point was that nobody wanted the jobs. In fact, a very highly sought coach wanted and took the job.

That's true. There are no guarantees in life except that, if you don't change, you will not improve. We could fire Les Miles and maybe not wind up with anyone better. If we don't fire him, we are guaranteed not to wind up with anyone better. If the status quo is not acceptable, then change is required, even if there's a chance the change won't help anything. At least it has a chance to help.
So, it simply boils down to whether the status quo is acceptable.

That's were we don't see eye to eye. You can keep the average plain Jane and I'll try and pick up the hot model. I may not get her, but I like my chances and I'm sick of Jane. She's getting fat and slowly bringing me down.

We don't really know. Most of Les' guys are just getting into the league. FWIW, Peterson will be the best pro we've had come out of LSU in a long long time. And guess who signed & developed him?
