I’m a defer guy, but with this team, not so sure. There have been a few games, including AU and Texas where I thought if we scored on the first possession of the second half, the game was over. Each time, our offense stumbled.

Always defer
Especially on the road. Fans in all stadiums are always a little louder the first series of the game relative to the first series of the second half. Not to mention you have more real-time data to start the second half than the first half. (What’s workin, what’s not, strategy, current score, what’s needed, etc)
That said, if and when Bama wins the toss, obviously there is certainly a benefit to getting the ball first IF you take the ball straight down the field and score. However, history shows that’s unlikely for either team in a big game...most big games there is a “feeling out” the first couple series and rarely a bunch of scoring early

Would you defer or take the ball?
You defer.
Even with an explosive offense (or facing an explosive offense), all of the analytics say that 2nd half possessions are worth more.

Defer
I always like going on defense first no matter where we play. Crowds at kickoff are usually amped up, so I like for us to go defense first at Tiger Stadium to feed off of our crowd on the opponents first drive.
If away, I like defense first to take the energy out of their crowd at kickoff.

Please give me one example of a game you have ever watched where you were HAPPY we kicked off to start the 3rd, or SAD we got the ball to start the third.
You can't, so you ALWAYS WANT THE BALL TO START THE THIRD!!!!!
This is so simple, and yet this stupid question comes up before every game.
