Yes it offsets. What normally happens though is a lower lump sum buyout is negotiated and they remove that language. The school pays less money but gives up the offset provision and normally the requirement that the coach has to look for work.
But him taking the PSU job probably doesn’t give them enough time to negotiate a buyout so the offset would come in to play.

This. A school like Arkansas, Oklahoma St, Stanford, UCLA should give him a serious look. Maybe even Michigan St if they move on from Smith given Kelly's history in the state.
Florida Auburn and Penn St I'd be shocked if any of them went after him. It makes no sense for Penn St to pay $50M for Franklin to frick off and then turn around and hire Kelly.

If the knock on Kelly here was he didnt work hard enough and mailed it in,
1) Why would he want another job?
2) Why would Penn State hire him? It isnt like Kelly's laziness is some rumor. It has been reported by everyone and refuted by noone

That looks so wrong. Teams only play in 1 bowl game per season. But the playoffs changed that. I may be able to make that change in my brain one day.

PSU made the playoff last year and he still got canned this year. Outside of PSU, OSU, and Michigan, I would agree with 9-10 wins is a career job. Not at those 3 B10 schools.

How are the golf courses in State College, PA? Kelly might take the job if there is some good golf up there, though it is going to be way too far away from the beach for his liking.
