If we are going to play the close game, LSU almost dropped the MSU, Georgia, and Arkansas games.
Mental capacity has nothing to do with actual football knowledge, it just means that people are smarter than Miles. It's not like he is a Rhodes Scholar.

I feel like many of you who truly believe that LSU could replace Les with "many of the people on this board" are very simple minded, borderline retarded.
No one ever said they could take his place, but some of the things he does are mind boggling to people that understand football. It was fairly obvious all year that when Holliday was in the backfield, he was getting the ball. If a fan can see that, certainly you can agree that a D coordinator will figure that out.

Some are giving suggestions for new coaches that have recently had 6 loss seasons in lesser conferences
This is the kind of crap I read on the Rant that drives me f'n crazy. It's not as simple as "he had 6 losses, we had 4 losses, so we are better, and our coach is better."
Let's look a little deeper at things shall we? There are a lot of coaches with 6 loss seasons that could coach circles around our "4 loss coach". With what Miles was given, and the recruiting base he has to work from, and with his historically pitiful OOC scheduling, 9 losses over the last 2 seasons is a pretty poor performance.
How about a "6 loss coach" who competes with three other in state schools for talent and plays a tough OOC schedule? Chances are he might be a pretty good coach.
The "results only" crowd would never have fired Larry Coker. They would have defended him to the very end.

Leach or Tubbs would do better. But it aint happening.

The kind of posts I hate are the ones that assume, based on limited actual knowledge of whatever coach, that the 6 loss mid level coach would dominate at LSU with our supposedly untouchable recruiting base and immaculate facilities. I believe that, on the surface, a coach at a mid level school who has 6 loss seasons may not be the 10-13 win a year coach that you want. You put words in my mouth to direct your anger out on. Weak.
It's "not as simple" as:
Les Miles= Larry Coker
LSU's talent is the best in the country= should win 10-13 games every year
win the MWC or WAC and go to BCS game= would dominate at LSU
Steve Spurrier's 7-6 @ USCe = 13-0 @ LSU
Coach who yells a lot at his players = better coach

I'm sorry, how many BCS games has Miami been to since that firing?

tlary: Agree and disagree.
1) Ole Miss- Gorilla in room never discussed was that Coaches had given up on game and never BELIEVED JJ would complete last 2 passes to put LSU in position to win. Worse than that was not running up the middle when in position to win with field goal, rather than running with inexperienced t-back and taking chance on sack. Time would have expired, and last second melt down would never have occurred.
2)Agree.
3)Disagree.."Slant" pass would have been good choice at end of game and would have increased chance of first down, thus clock stoppage. Bubble screen in Bowl was bad choice because relied on line getting down field in mud to provide "Bubble" blocks for WR who was supposed to run behind blockers. Created mass confusion instead, and time ran down.
4)Disagree...QB could not run straight down the line because of defense penetration. To run option successfully requires outstanding O-Line, which we didn't have. But JJ has never learned how to properly run an option, which is not his fault.
5)Disagree..fourth and 1 INCH with our O-Line, you take what you can get. Kick the FG! Remember Ciron Black getting his A-- kicked by ULL? You kick the FG!
6)Agree 100% ie La. Tech! They couldn't stop the run, we couldn't pass because of rush.
7)Disagree and agree depending on what you mean by Pressure. But do agree that Tight ends were inexplicably left out of game plan at end of year and were under utilized.
8)Disagree...must always assume the Ark. coaches will make adjustments to remove foot from throat. Smart coaches figure how Ark. will adjust, and plan to counter move. Only time to adjust is halftime. Can't waive opportunity.
9)Agree if your point is we don't provide enough pressure on QB with DL. Pressure must come every play. ie don't recall ever seeing us use the Zone Blitz, and I know our DE's have pass coverage responsibility in some defenses.
10)I'm sure you're being facetious because I don't ever recall our CB's 10yds off the line except in a "prevent" situation. But I agree that when we are in a "Blitz" of any kind, a hands on press coverage must be applied to the receivers and unfortunately, we don't do that.
11)Agree 50%...Randle played substantial time for a freshman. Shep was under utilized. Shep is determined to play QB, and has difficulty in reading defenses and setting protections as any first year QB does. The coaches do not want to put him in the position to fail like they did with JL when he was thrown into the fire unprepared. But I agree there was no excuse why the coaches couldn't prepare a "10 play wildcat-type package" for Shep that would involve roll out run-pass options. That would involve minimal turnover risk and would utilize his exceptional talents. After all, we saw in the Spring game 2009, he really can pass. JJ certainly has the better arm, but Shep is an exceptional runner and could definitely help the offense. To have his talent on the sideline, while the offense is struggling is inexplicable.

Unless we win the SEC championship or go to a BCS bowl next year, Miles is gone.
