He played these negotiations beautifully. Didn't show his hand at all and kept all his cards close to the vest. For a 17/18 yr old kid, that's impressive. Yes, I know he was professional advised to do these things, but most of use at that age couldn't do this to save our lives if we had to.

I on the other hand want to put a foot up his arse all the while acknowledging that I would have done the same thing.

And since when does it take a IQ of 140 to hold out till the last minute?

You don't need a high IQ. I'm speaking of all the excitement and anxiety that builds up from this sort of thing. Most 17/18 yr olds would say something they aren't supposed to and blow their leverage

Go back to when you were 18... Now somebody hands you $5.5 million and all you have to do for that money is play baseball. Dare you to say no.

From what I understand, Lee never hired an advisor because he didn't want to hurt his college eligibility. The Dodgers are the ones that deserve the props. They didn't contact Lee until the last day and threw enough money at him to get him to sign. Impressive considering a lot of teams passed on him thinking he wouldn't sign and because most thought the Dodgers didn't want to sign their 1st round pick.

i heard it on the radio so i can't take credit...but seriously:

would you want a guy who's dumb enough to turn down 5.25 million dollars running your program at QB?

haha, i don't.

Pretty stupid comment. There are a number of reasons why someone would turn down the money. Not to mention all the times fans want a JR to turn down the money and come back for their SR year.

...are you serious?

do you honestly think ZL was worried about what the fans would think?

Put yourself in his shoes dumbass. There's a chance he could seriously hurt himself in the next year or two he might of stayed. There's goes all the $$$. 5.25 million gone.

you're a fricking dumbass if you would seriously advise your son to turn down 5.25 million to play for LSU and take the chance of getting hurt and not having that opportunity ever again.

Look at Chad Jones, God Bless him.....but what now? nothing. go back to school. live a normal life. all washed away in an instant. Same thing could feasibly happen to ZL....and that money and opportunity is gone.

If pro baseball doesn't pan out for the kid. Pull a Josh Booty. Use the $5.25 mill to go back to school, get an education, and live a normal life.

you're a fricking fool to think ZL gave a damn about what the fans think when it comes to $5.25 MILLION.

Totally agree..especially the ones that are on here ranting and raving...like they have all the answers to run a Div 1 football school...I HOPE THEY DO BETTER IN THEIR SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVMENTS THAN THEY DO ON THEIR OPINIONS ON THIS BOARD..if they don't ,,,

Finally a reasonable post from someone who actually knows what happened.

Good luck to Zach, hope he remains a Tiger fan for life. Sounds like the kind of person we need to have at LSU. No way he can be faulted for taking the money in those circumstances.

Zach and his parents played LSU. They knew full well that if Zach looked like he was going all out for LSU the Dodgers would pony up some serious cash. So the kid enrolls, plays the game, has a little fun pretending to be QB for the last time and sweats out the Dodgers.
Once the Dodgers made him a first rounder. LSU was out of the picture except as a wedge.

Cynical and cold on their part but it is business. Just as it will be business if Zach blows out his arm in AA ball and the Dodgers release him.
