I remember several Sec,cbs, analyst saying on TV Mett had the upper hand before he left.
So media analyst make the call on coaches decisions now?
Also Mett worked exclusively with the second team while Murray worked with the first team & second team. Seems to me that Murray already had the inside track to being named the starter.
quote:
The redshirt freshman from Oconee County passed for more yards (150) and touchdowns (two) than any of the quarterbacks and completed 6 of 10 passes, but he was the only one of the three not to work with the first-team offense.
quote:
Mettenberger worked exclusively with the Black team (the second-team offense) against the Red team (second-team defense). He also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to walk-on receiver Rhett McGowan.
One could also argue that Logan Gray had just as good of Spring Game as Mett and just like Murray, Gray played with both the first & second team.
quote:
Gray and Murray worked with both the first- and second-team offense.
Gray completed 10 of 17 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown.

You are talking out of your arse.

While Art Briles hasn't won a title at Baylor, he built that program from nothing into a great program. Before he came to Baylor they hadn't made a bowl game in over 20 years
Yet he has won nothing of significance outside of one his players winning the Heisman Trophy which last time I checked was an individual accomplishment. How can I forget their Alamo Bowl game against Washington that year where not a lick of defense was played that game. Baylor 67 Washington 56
The last two bowls appearances for Baylor have been ended up in a disappointing loss to UCF where they got handled in the trenches & a complete meltdown the 4th quarter in the past Cotton Bowl against Michigan St. Baylor didn't even know what hit them in that 4th quarter just like their field goal kicker did on this play.

Wow... I like Miles to a point... Hes comical and has in the past showed he has a huge set of balls... But too many in game gaffs that make me think WTF?????? A great recruiter and general nice guy.... I hope he stays here until he retires.... He is def top 5 coach right now.... BUT WHO would LSU bring in that could do better.... Saban would never come back. Peterson is NOT leaving TCU... Meyer would be a fool to leave the Big Ten... I guess mytwo choices would be Mora jr. from UCLA or Harbaugh from Mich...

Those two articles prove my point Mett was either tied with or ahead of Murray meaning he was learning from the system.
It was a three quarterback race... do you think it's possible that Richt was considering Logan Gray for the starting job, as in the other quarterback who played against the first team defense?
quote:
Mett was on track to be a Greene, Stafford type player
And then he received subpar QB coaching in JUCO and under the tutelage of Greg Studrawa.... making him a subpar quarterback until he received adequate coaching.
quote:
This validates my point that our head coach can't develop qb's as freshmen to pro's.
It does nothing to validate your point. If your only consideration is for freshmen quarterbacks, there is no purpose in discussing Mettenberger at all. In a ten year coaching tenure, there have been only two such quarterbacks recruited out of high school (both by Gary Crowton) to have seen the field... and they led us to a National Championship as seniors.

Fact is that we were damn fortunate to beat that team once, and weren't going to fare well against a rested and motivated team.
Why more cant see the rather big advantage Bama had in that rematch is beyond me. How many teams in college football could have beaten Bama once that season much less twice. Doesn't excuse the team or coaching effort, but it was certainly a mighty big hill LSU was asked to climb and certainly played a major factor in the game results.
I know I would have loved to have had another shot at Fla. in 06.

All great coaches have developed great qb play at some point.
Bear Bryant - Bart starr, Joe Namath,
Walsh- Montana
Bellicheck-Brady
BYU coach- Steve young, Jim McMann
Bear Bryant coached at Alabama for 24 years and you've named two quarterbacks?
Lavelle Edwards had McMahon playing punter and was contemplating moving Steve Young to defensive back....
How about Nick Saban? Urban Meyer? Pete Carroll? Joe Paterno? Bobby Bowden? Tom Osborne? Bo Schembechler? Woody Hayes? Barry Switzer? Pat Dye?
Great coaches are great coaches, who are able to eclipse all others when they happen into great quarterback play... you bring up Bill Walsh and Bill Belichick, who happen to have been paired with two HOF quarterbacks for all but the briefest moments of their careers.
Whether he recruited them as true freshman or not, Miles put up some insane passing numbers with Jamarcus Russell and Zach Mettenberger... and has the potential to do the same with Brandon Harris and Feleipe Franks.

I actually agree with this. It's VERY hard to beat a good team twice in the same year. The emotional edge switches to the losing team.
However, that doesn't excuse our horrific performance. And it was for the freaking national championship, and we laid a complete egg. No excuse for that level of incompetence and lack of preparation (both x and o and motivational/emotion).

quote:Same here. What's not being acknowledged is that all of the also-rans in the SEC/West have elevated their game in the last 2-3 years..... The parity in this division has never been better than today. The days of throwing your jock on the field are over, and if you don't play like your hair's on fire, you're asking for trouble.... and you better have a hired gun to lead you.

I like Miles and he has been quite successful. However to take him over any other current CFB coach, if given the opportunity, is being blinded by purple and gold glasses.
quote:
you cannot deny his success.
Saban and Meyer can deny his success.
Miles gets disrespected alot by the media. Some of it is justified, alot of it is not. The list of coaches that are better than him is very short, but Saban and Meyer are both on it.
