Assuming Tom Herman would have simply taken the highest bidder between LSU and Texas (which is not accurate, but for the sake of this argument let's assume it is), LSU would never, NEVER, NEVER be able to outbid Texas - wouldn't happen. Texas had their sights set on Herman and they knew he wanted to be there.
But, assuming LSU could outbid Texas (which they couldn't, but for the sake of this argument let's assume they could), what you would have ended up with is the highest paid coach in the country (let that sink in) who has never been the head coach at a P5 school and has a whopping 2 years experience as a head coach (finishing in a 1st place tie in year one and 3rd place finish in year 2). I'm not saying Tom Herman won't pan out - he might - but there is no greater chance of him having success than Coach O. He is far from a sure thing.
