re: I understand why some of you want CPM fired, I really do.

The problem with this team, and a majority of the CPM teams is lack of leadership. With the exception of some of the Bregman years, you just don't see that team mentality. It often seems like a bunch of individuals out there worrying about themselves. Maybe I'm wrong about that. But you don't have any leaders on this team, and that's been the case for several of CPM's supposedly more talented teams. Leadership starts at the top, with the players he recruits and then how he leads them, or allows them to lead. Cannizaro no longer being there to chew some arse, instill some fire, etc... is really showing itself this year.

They had it last year with Cannizzaro. How many times did we see him get the team up in between innings and fire they up? It was a ton. How the frick could anyone take Mainieri serious in a huddle when he starts yelling with his little hokey munchkin voice?

I think CPM has become complacent. He has gotten a little to comfortable and lost the drive he once had. He didn't go out and hire a proper coach to replace Cannizaro. Some times contract extentions and more money have a reverse effect. It did for Les.

Because going out and finding an elite hitting coach 3 months before the season was an option? Who were they going to get?
Alan Dunn and Andy Cannizaro were both candidates he hired from professional baseball. The timeline was not an issue for those folks.
This is so stupid. Mainieri told the Advocate that he always was going to replace Canni as hitting coach with Gibbs. He also told the Advocate that he wanted to split the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator jobs (which no one else in the country does). What hitting coach worth a shite is going to come to LSU to take the volunteer coach job? No one. So stupid.

I didn't agree with the Gibbs hire but your statement above just isn't accurate.
Who did he interview other than Cain and Gibbs which he has told the Advocate was always the plan?

This staff is beyond pathetic at a school like LSU:
Dunn - Legit, experienced coach
Nolan Cain - no experience
Micah Gibbs - no experience
Nate Fury - no experience
Seah Ochinko - no experience
Take a look at other top programs and look at their assistants. Not a single one looks like this.
But you have to do work to hire qualified people. You have to go to camps and workshops and meet baseball minds. Put in time and effort to find folks who can do jobs. Interview them and challenge your comfort zones. With Paul, you won't get his best unless you threaten to fire him every 4 years or so. It is the only thing that motivates him to not be lazy and rest on his laurels.

There is a delusional element of our fan base that always believes that we have the greatest talent and that the opposing teams have little or not talent (except for Alabama in football, but then it is always the Bama friendly officiating).
So, we we aren't in the Final Four and kicking every other teams butt, it is time to fire the coach.
During the gymnastics finals, there were actually several posters who said DD needed to go.

The problem was and has always been the hiring and promotion of Nolan Cain.
You essentially have assigned 1 of the 2 paid assistant coaching spots to a volunteer coach who has no recruiting experience, has never held another coaching position, has never scouted talent.
You now have a pitching coach in Alan Dunn which is reasonable and Nolan Cain who is basically acting as recruiting coordinator and third base coach although he never hit. Hiring Micah Gibbs was the easy solution for one season but it's not the correct long term solution.
Hitting coaches can and should hold titles of recruiting coordinator its common practice in college baseball.
At the end of June Mainieri will have the opportunity to reshuffle his coaching staff and hire a legit hitting coach, if he doesn't...

He had the opportunity to do that in November. He declined.

what did CPM specifically do to make us lose that game?
He let 7 runs score before pulling the damn pitcher. You can't do that in a rubber game in an important series like this, especially with Gilbert and Newman never seeing the mound all weekend.

He'll have had the time to do his due diligence over the course of this entire spring and make a clean break.

He had time to do it in July when the guy who left in November was interviewing for several head coaching jobs, one of which was at his alma mater which it looked like he was going to land.

Skip Bertman, would never say Hitting Coaches are overrated and then replace his previous Hitting Coach with a Former Player with absolutely no previous experience, so yes this is all Paul Mainieri's fault.

I think that the real issue is that you have two experienced pitchers and a team of returning starters. This year is likely their best chance to do a serious postseason run. Teams like Virginia, Fresno State, and Coastal Carolina have made Omaha runs with average regular season records. Can LSU do it this year if they must go on the road during regionals ?
It's difficult to figure this year's squad. Not sure on Mainieri except he isn't getting canned anytime soon.
