Did you see Sonic Sam in the first round? Neither of these guys impacted the team as much as him. He laid back last year in games and admitted it. Ego, has done zilch! Nada! Freak has not lived up to his potential! Period! Yea, this is a new year, but both are still unproven. Before we start talking about these guys leaving early. Let them at least play up to their potential for an entire season.

If they were that good, why did we suffer through Josh Downs, and why was Logan, a late round pick, by far our best tackle?

It doesn't matter who the starters are at DL because Chavis likes to play at least 8 or 9 guys. Ego and Freak logged about the same amount of time as the two starters last season.

Ego has had zero impact and is an upperclassman, Johnson has shown some flashes, but has not been exceptional in any facet.

Essentially every mock draft for 2014 has Freak going 1st round and Ego has been beasting by all accounts. I think it's a possibility.

no offense but Freak still has some proving to do this year when it comes to being on the field the majority of the snaps....however if he produces i could see possible first round

For everyone saying how he hasn't proven anything and hasn't done anything great for LSU yet, here is a stat comparison from sophomore seasons:

Glenn Dorsey: GP-GS 13-1 UT-16 AT-12 TT-28 TFL-4 Sacks-3

Freak: 13-3 11 19 30 10.0 3.0

So there's no way we were going to have a good line in 2011 right? We had to "suffer" through pep Livingston and our best tackle Nevis went in the late rounds (3rd) Haha. Brockers hadn't shown anything and who else did we even have (Logan)? By this logic college football has been getting worse every season since its existence. Unless you had a player come in and start as a freshman...

Bottom line those 2011 tackles were some of the best we've ever had they just needed a chance to prove it and develop. Ego and freak are 10x more proven than brockers and Logan going into 2011

Yes but we all knew Dorsey was going to be amazing so those stats don't mean anything. Freak is just overhyped and an underachiever

Freak has done well up to this point yes, but he has NOT been an every down starter, to warrant a first round selection it seems that he would need one productive season of being an every down starter, i don't doubt that he can do it, this season is his shot, i hope for the sake of our Wins and Losses that he can produce

This.

If the kid was named "John" instead of "Freak" this first round talk wouldn't exist. The rant sees a nickname and gets a hard on and overestimates a guys ability.

him being highly recruited has more to do with it than a nickname IMO.

Come on dude... hopefully he has a breakout type year but he has done nothing to garner this kind of praise.

If they are going to be first round draft picks they have a lot of improving to do

It typically takes interior lineman longer to adjust to the college game than most other positions. Defensive tackles with exceptional physical tools usually blossom in their 3rd years (Glenn Dorsey, Michael Brockers, Sharrif Floyd.) It stands to reason Johnson and/or Ego could be in for a breakout year with increased playing time.

Hope you are wrong. If so, we are screwed for 2014 if Ego & Freak leaves.

Looks like Quentin Thomas is a big, strong space eater. Not very quick, but can help keep the LB's clean and help collapse the pocket. Mickey looks a little quicker, but have trouble shedding blockers due to his short arms. Locuture looks promising though.

I'm with you. Who had heard of Brockers and Logan before the '11 season started. Their mommas and that's about it.

Logan wasn't even being mentioned as a starter coming out of spring. He wasn't on the two deep.
