I just don't think Hatch is an SEC caliber starter for a championship team.

I just remember people saying the same thing about Mauck...that worked out pretty good.
Yea, right after he threw 5 Ints. in the Spring Game. Guess some remember that, I do.

for someone to emerge as the starter the staff has to feel they are better, if lee does not emerge Hatch is better
I don't necessarily think that's true. Experience, composure, and a grasp of the system could allow for someone less talented to start over someone else for precautionary reasons, it may be a safer choice. It looks like Lee will get eased into the game and if he can play well there, not take too many unnecessary risks, keep his composure, show leadership abilities, and display a grasp of the playbook and understanding of the defense then maybe he can take the spot by Auburn.

Hatch was good enough for crowton to want him at BYU.... yes BYU has nothing on an SEC School but it also isnt Harvard or Yale... he didnt go to BYU because of Crowton leaving. I understand that BYU is not the same as LSU, but he will have plenty of talent around him at lsu that all he will have to do is manage the game... flynn and mauck did a good job of this. and you gotta trust miles... i mean the guy went for it against auburn and led us to a win by TD rather than by FG. Give the guy a break. Let him throw a pass. If then he sucks it up we can pass judgement. They wont leave him out that and risk the season if he doesnt seem up for it. so drop it.

Just for the hell of it...
I'm not arguing for Hatch being the starter for the season, but there have been a lot of great college QBs without great arm strength, Danny Wuerffel being the most recent and obvious. However, many people are forgetting than when Hatch was originally recruited to BYU he was only 6' and weighed about 180 pounds, hence the lack of interest from other schools. However Crowton, then the coach at BYU, noticed that his parents were tall (dad was 6'4", mom was 5'10") and assumed Hatch would gain some size over his college career. Five years later and Hatch is 6'3" and 225. Who is to say that he won't be an incredible college QB who can throw the deep ball? You do not need a cannon of an arm to throw a deep ball, as Wuerffel obviously proved to everyone in the mid-late 90s(then Carr a few years later). All I'm saying is give the guy a chance, Wuerffel had a 'noodle' arm just like Hatch, but he won the Heisman and still is one of the most prolific college QBs in history.
*However, I absolutely want to see all 3 QBs take the field on Saturday and see what they can do. If we decide to stay with one QB for the rest of the season, I'll be behind them all the way hands down. Just saying we should give ALL of them a chance.

O'Brien winners:
BYU has had 4 winners, Fla. 3 and Fla. St., Penn St., Iowa, Miami, and Ok all with 2 each. Tebow won it last year, before that, the last time someone from the SEC won it, you'd have to go back to 1996.
The only people to have won the award twice are Danny Wuerffel of Florida, Ty Detmer of Brigham Young, and Jason White of Oklahoma.
Crowton having spent time at BYU and with the system would know a little about QB's. Like I tell people, the Wiz has been here for one season, hes just getting started. Same with Coach Studs.

quote:So because the guy said "I think" and posted his opinion, this thread should be whacked b/c its a random thought? You could argue any opinion on this board is a "random thought". The guy is apparently basing his opinion on what has been reported over and over again, that Lee is a more polished passer. Nothing wrong with that. The original poster also didn't start multiple posts. Just this one.
this is a random thought. he has nothing to go on, just a random thought

you're such a f*ggot. I could easily get into how retarded you are for trying to make that case but I think the stupidity is quite abundant to everyone else.
This is a message board not The Advocate sports section. In fact, opinions form the foundation of articles there as well. You're an idiot.
