I was at the Indy Bowl, as well. It was my third year in Tiger Band, and it was a big deal to us after all of the losing and all of the downright terrible football that we had been subjected to. Rain or shine, win or lose, you can't get up and leave when you're in the Band.

That the year that Linda Moorehouse came back to the Tiger Band program, and she and Frank Wickes started the tradition of the band not just playing, but also singing the Alma Mater after the game, which has now turned into a much bigger deal thanks to Coach Miles having the players do it.

I remember that a bunch of LSU fans were on the field after the game, and several of the players came back out of the locker room. We played for a while because we were having so much fun, and so many fans were still in the stadium. When we finally quit playing and sang the Alma Mater to close it out and head to the buses, everyone was singing as loud as they could with what little voices they had left and flags were waving all over the place. It was a really cool moment. It may seem insignificant now, but after a decade in the college football wilderness, it really meant a lot to us. To me, that was LSU's first step back to being a real program.

Also, my wife of over fourteen years and I got together at a party the next night back in Baton Rouge, so I have plenty of great memories of that game! GEAUX TIGERS!!!

I was a Sophomore at LSU totally excited about the Independence Bowl. Kids are spoiled with the riches this program has given them. Thinking back on those days make this ride so much more fun.

Those times have made me really appreciate the here and now, as well.

Most of my family are big UT football fans, and I have been pretty sympathetic to what they are going through. It's a good example that no program is impervious to lean years. They happen to everybody at some point. I remember thinking how spoiled they were when UT was rolling. I also went to grad school at FSU (NOT a fan, though. At all) from 98-2000. That was the high point and really the end of their great run. They made me absolutely sick, and I remember being so happy when UT beat them in the Fiesta Bowl in 98. I even started cheering for UF to beat them by the time I left there. Now they are just coming out of the fog of mediocrity.

I guess if you asked UT and FSU fans today who the most spoiled rotten fans are, LSU would probably come up, and deservedly so. I try not to be, because I remember the bad times, but there are a lot of young fans and bandwagon jumpers who don't remember them. Like everyone is saying, enjoy this while it lasts.

Thrilled? We stormed the field after the game.

LSU beat Michigan State in the Poulan Weedwhacker Independence Bowl and we went ape shite.

My friend picked Allen Stansberry up and started running around the field with him.

I've still got my crappy, cheap long-sleeve shirt that I bought from one of the rip-off vendors that were selling them outside the stadium.

Im trying to think which game in the late 90's or early 2000's the fans wanted to tear down the goal post after beating I think either Miss St or Tennessee

I remember that trip vividly as well. I was in 7th grade and my pops drove me and a couple buds up the night before - we made a trip out of it.

I recall being so proud that our team made a bowl game - and when we won convincingly I was even prouder, probably came close to shedding a man-tear when after the game - Herb Tyler hoisted the LSU flag up and started jogging around the field with it, waving it with pride. I'll never forget that moment.

I remember losing my shite over beating Kentucky in 1994. Oh how far we have come. I have a lot of UT friends, and their "whoa is me" attitude is hysterical. UT won 100 games in the 90's when you only played 11 games a season, were in contention for the SEC every year, won 2 SECs, and one NC. I just tell them welcome to my childhood. I feel like I earned the right to see what we've seen this century after the misery that accompanied the 90s. Those UT fans were just spoiled getting to grow up watching Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning, and a host of NFL players dominate.

It was 2000, and we did tear down the goal posts after UT, tore them down after Bama, and tried to after beating state in OT. I hope we never do it again, as that is the mark of a program that isn't dominant.
