App St could have moved up to FBS a long time ago if they wanted. I think they enjoy dominating FCS. Why move up and be lower tier?

I know David defeated Goliath last year & Armanti Edwards is the best QB in the country, but realistically how good is APPY State?

Good, but not good enough. There's a reason why when they beat Michigan it was such a huge deal, because everyone knows that was a once in a century type upset.

The fact is that LSU as a SEC and BCS school has too much talent, too much bench, and too many other positives. Don't let the once in a century upset make you feel uneasy. LSU will win a cakewalk.

"good" just doesnt quite say it i think.
as far preseason polls go this is one of the more consistent ones out there for our division. we recieved 76 votes for 1st. as with just about every school, the word coming out of camp is that this should be a better team than previous years, only app has proven it true three years in a row.

But, since they are playing LSU none of that matters. No margin of victory would be too big for us in my mind.

The advertising that will come from playing this team is HUGH for LSU........

There is certainly some truth to that. To be honest, I'm not sure which I'd prefer, to be a perennial championship contender in a lower division (sorry, but it is) or to (at best) be a perennial contender for the Sun Belt or C-USA title and a mid-lower tier bowl game in the top division in college football. BTW, thats not a knock on the team, but there is no way App would slide right into a BCS conference, and you can't realistically expect the success you've had to continue right away at the next level.

I can't really speak for the App fans.... thoughts?

I don't think that we could or even would want to go into a BCS conference. In fact, I hope we don't make a move up. I believe that would tremendously set our program back. (Not because of what some ranter may scream about) If ASU were to move up right now we would either have to compete with all the ACC schools in North Carolina for recruits or spend enormous amounts of money traveling in C-USA, SEC, etc.

I think ASU is doing a great job at being an ambassador-of-sorts for all the FCS(DIV I-AA) schools that can provide quality playing time again big opponents and a great education. I see a future for parity in college football soon.

As far as it being a los/lose for LSU? It really is not. Many people realize that ASU has a lot of talent and great coaching. This isn't like LSU is playing against Chicago Poly-tech or some totally unheard of college that fluked their way into the game.

One of our challenges will always be geography. If you've never been to Boone, it is rugged and not a lot of flat ground available. It is a popular retirement/tourist area so land values are high. Any time we build dorms, classroom buildings, etc. we really do have to move mountains. There is granite (Grandfather Window) just below the topsoil and the weather limits work as well. I've been there when the temp was -20F with a windchill of -40F, classes were cancelled for 3-4 days due to the cold. This makes the infrastructure necessary to support a school large enough for IA and atheletic facilities expensive. I'm convinced we will make the jump but there is a hold on IA additions for the next several years (2010-2011?).
