Because he was handled this year by people in college.

Yeah, that's true. I'm not sure what the scouts look at sometimes though.

Tyson's career high for sacks in an NFL season is 1. So that hasn't really worked out.

Mingo is really fast, but I could imagine him getting pushed around in the NFL at his weight. Then if he puts on weight, he may not be as fast. Who knows...

Not talking about stats. Watch the game film. A lot of Sam's sacks/TFL's came on extended plays. Rarely was he the first to get pressure on the QB. Look, I like Sam as much as anyone and really like what he's meant to the program; but I don't think his tape shows what I'd be looking for in a 1st or 2nd round DE. I expect those guys to be very disruptive and forcing OC's to account for them in their blocking schemes as well as play selection. Don't think Sam is at that level right now.

From the player's perspective, what choice is there if he has a good chance of being drafted relatively high? It is a shot at making some good money that may not happen again. The top players are in it to cash in. Nothing wrong with that.

Was that because of his size or because he simply didn't play consistently?

He sure wasn't getting "handled" his sophomore year, playing a little smaller.

Tyson Jackson was picked purely on his measurables (height, weight, decent speed) and his "upward" potential. Part of his problem, as is Dorsey's, is playing in a 3-4 at KC. Both are 4-3 types...TJ at DE and GD at DT. Neither are well suited for a 3-4.

This is one of the areas KC has royally screwed in the draft. They picked defensive players with a lot of skill that didn't fit their defensive scheme.

What difference does it make ? He still had a mediocre year. I imagine the Badger comin'from the other side two years ago helped him out.

Maybe he could play LB.

The difference is NFL scouts will drool over Mingo's combination of size/speed. They will see him as a guy who could put a hand in the ground to rush or stand up to either rush or help in run/pass defense. This is what makes Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware so great. Mingo is similar.

On the other hand, Montgomery is a 4-3 type DE. He has to be able to be explosive off the ball and get pressure by himself.

IMO we've struggled getting consistent pressure with just our front 4 this year. Even though our DE's have some sacks/TFL's, most of those have come when we've sent an extra LB or DB on a blitz. This extra rusher was picked up and left the DE uncovered.

Again, I like Sam and think he's a great Tiger but taking off the P&G glasses, right now I would give him a mid 2nd or early 3rd Round grade based on his game tape. Not explosive enough for me to take in the first round.

That could be, but that's taking a risk on someone playing a new position at big boy level. If I'm gonna blow a lot of money, I want to be pretty confident that it will be a good fit.

True, but for Tyson, he only had 4.5 sacks his senior year as it was.

I wouldn't go higher than 3rd round on Logan. I think he's gained too much weight and has lost any quickness he had. If he goes, he better land on a team that runs a 3-4 and needs a run-stuffer NT.

Everyone is impressed with A. Smith of the 49er D, that's what scouts see when they look at Mingo. The LB Draft class is loaded, only reason Minter comes back. Reid is a smart guy, I think he knows he needs to work on his coverage skills before going to the next level. So I think Sam and Mingo go... Minter, Reid and Logan stay.

I don't think he was. He was more powerful and has that Putt-Putt motor.
