Nuss was the more accomplished QB in the Spring game.
Let me stop you right there. No one gives two shits about a spring game. Absolutely irrelevant. It’s about as relevant as going in against ULM and passing for 400.

I agree 100% I noticed it in the few times he played. But QBs get better at this the more they play, you just want it to be on the practice field and not on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium. Brennan has been through this stage and is Big Game ready, I think he is going to light it up this year.

He is definitely the "gunslinger" type. He will throw a lot of picks until he learns to settle down.
Was Burrow a "Gunslinger"?
He said, "sometimes when the receiver isn't open I throw it up knowing Chase, Marshall, or Jefferson will go get it".
In the Spring game, Nuss threw no interceptions. One pass was tipped by a D Lineman but it wasn't close to being intercepted. Another was a 50/50 ball to the TE but not in the defenders hands.
In contrast, remember the pass to Helaire across the middle, in the Championship game. Burrow hit the Clemson DB in the hands, but he dropped the ball.
If you are going to count bad throws as possible interceptions, how about counting "almost TDs". The Nuss pass to Hilton in the corner. If Hilton had better concentration and got his foot down, it would have been a TD. The same with the pass to Jennings where he missed the catch and was injured. If that had been Marshal, it would have been a catch and probably a TD.
It works both ways.

Nuss isn’t transferring if he doesn’t play this year.
If Nuss doesn't get the starting job in the fall after what he accomplished in those 15 spring practices and in the spring game, then he'd be incredibly stupid to stick around.
Indeed, it would mean that this coaching staff is very wish-washy and intellectually dishonest and therefore, he should get the hell out of here as fast as he can and go to a place where the coaching staff will appreciate his talents.

The MB homers like to say he is not careful with the ball, but by all accounts he threw far less picks in the 15 spring passes than they did.

The defense ran the same 2 looks the whole game.........
That's the story of every spring game and the offense ran the same vanilla offensive plays over and over again. Yet, Nuss still scored on all of his possessions while the other QBs didn't.

Most bothersome thing for me is none of the DBs stood out in spring. Tons of talent at S but nobody really separates and some of the higher recruited guys don't look like they belong on the field. I can see why BK is targeting so many S in this recruiting class. Think you're going to have attrition there.

Brennan was right there with him in the Spring game.
Are you sure you watched the right spring game? As Nuss scored on all four of four of his possessions and in the process he also threw several NFL level passes that Brennan can only hope to throw in his wildest wet dreams.
Meanwhile, Brennan only scored on 2 of his 5 possessions. However, on the final score Brennan is credited with, he really doesn't deserve the credit because he badly under threw the ball which then got knocked by accident into the hands of Malik Nabers by the LSU defender.
Apparently, you didn't watch the same spring game the majority of us watched.

If he is the backup to start the season, you simply make this pitch for him to stay: he is the backup to the guy who has been hurt more games than healthy in his very long career, most of which he never played.
If Nuss isn't named the starter in the fall, he will inevitably hit the transfer portal so fast it will make Brian Kelly's head spin and I won't blame him one iota.
You know, when a competition is close, and this one is not close at all, but for the sake of argument, let's say it's close, common sense dictates you give the job to the guy who you will need for the next three years, as opposed to the guy that will be history as soon as the season ends.

Nuss looked the best 75% of the time, and then he would throw it to the defense.
Uhm, when did Nuss throw it to the defense in the spring game? What were you smoking when watching the game?

Results - Jayden is limited reading defenses. Should only be given run plays. Been playing QB 3 years why would we expect him to become a consistent passer. Garrett - everyone is excited but could his spring performance been over inflated due to escapability and lack of defensive formations? He is able to buy time and make incredible throws. Myles - LSU staff picked him to attend Manning Camp. He’s your 1st game starter.
Wrong. All three of them attended the Manning Camp. Apparently, that story that said Myles was the only QB attending the Manning camp, which would be meaningless in any event, was absolutely bogus.
quote:
QB were not blitzed and defense ran vanilla.
Uhm, every spring game I ever watched in my entire life the offenses and the defenses were both vanilla. Nonetheless, there was a very clear best performer in the spring game and he isn't the QB you suggested will start because the LSU staff picked him to attend the Manning Camp, which besides being absolutely false is beyond absurd, to say the least.

Hasnt Myles been like every year?
Nuss’ dad is a QB coach. I don’t think he needs to attend some fluff camp
That loon above is a flake. As all three LSU QBs attended the Manning academy and even if Myles had been the only one picked by the staff to attend the Manning Academy, which is very bogus, that would have absolutely zero bearing on who would be named the starter.

And you know this how?
You Know and understand that I was speaking hypothetically right? However, if the hypothetical scenario does come to fruition, then Nuss will inevitably hit the transfer portal so fast that it will make you and Brian Kelly's head spin.

The first 15 practices under new coaches with new schemes mean very little. Looking good in a spring scrimmage means very little.
So in other words, because the guy you emotionally attached yourself to didn't win the 15 spring practices and was not the best performer in the spring game, then the QB competition held by Brian Kelly was bogus.
quote:
Brennan will get the first shot to perform.
Okay, but what exactly according to you did Brennan do to separate himself from the others and to prove that he is the best QB to be named the starter?

Dude was close to multiple ints in the spring game if DBs could catch and we were running a vanilla defense with no blitzing.
Close doesn't count buddy. Meanwhile, I have never watched a spring game in my life when the offense wasn't running a very vanilla offense and when the defense wasn't playing a very vanilla defense. Nonetheless, all the QBs played under the same exact circumstances. Yet. only one clearly out performed the others. Hint, he was the only QB to score on all four of his four possessions.
Well, the reason why Melvin is saying that is because after Nuss scored on this third possession of the game, the ESPN announcers had become so enamored by his play and his elite arm talent that they said Nuss has the "it factor", and then when Nuss hit Jack Bech in the back of the end zone for his final score of the day, those same ESPN announcers said that Nuss clearly won the day.

People that want Nuss to start do not recognize the huge turnover problem he is going to have this season.
What turnover problem? Nuss doesn't have a turn over problem. In fact, by all accounts, he threw far less picks relative to the other QB in the 15 spring practices.

I remember one distinct throw where Jay Ward should have picked it, what were the others?
Nah, it was too high and already out of bounds. In fact, it was a deliberate throw away.
