I have to believe that some of these players are distracted with their new NIL money...

and it is causing issues in their preparation each game week.

Just speculation on my part but Kelly did hint at it earlier in the season that the players have more distractions these days.

Thoughts?

This should apply to all teams though

I could see it being an issue but other teams aren't having the same problems

DJ Chester should be forced to pay it back.

Maybe they should get less distracted than all the other college players in the NCAA who are also getting NIL

Maybe. But how is that different than what every other school has to deal with? It’s not like it is a problem that is unique to LSU. To me it speaks more to what kind of locker room and culture you have and whether your kids are bought into what the program is doing.

Yes, we’re talking about recent high school grads getting paid like they’re seasoned vets. This whole NIL/portal is going to continue to make a mess of CFB. We will see more inconsistency across the board, coaches will struggle to corral their recruits/players, etc. The fact that there’s been no additional correction to the transfer portal is mind boggling.

All this being said, we are a bad football team this year and there’s plenty of blame to go around.

That’s a losers mentality. Florida’s players get NIL too and they showed up. Same with Tamu and Bama.

With the money and the portal there really isn’t any leverage that a coach has to apply pressure. Even in the NFL there are contracts. If you are under contract you just can’t walk away like you can in college. It’s why the midget quit.

Right

Colorado having a better season than us should dispel this notion

So other programs don’t have high value NIL players and are still competent on the field?

sure, but perhaps it is affecting us more because the team lacks leadership, it appears.

How do you explain that with the teams that paid more than us and have better records than us?

I think it is hard to judge character when they are the top physical players in their area in high school… the game goes from physical dominance to physical and mental in college….

Imo the nil is a distraction and some feel they made it after the new car and a chunk of cash in the bank or on the casino table….. others realize they can not get distracted from the bigger prize

The question will be how to judge that “drive” while recruiting.. not sure that is possible.. and do some areas tend to output recruits with different drive in their personality..
