I guess that's that then. There's no need to let the season play out at all. What's the point of even playing?
I mean, there's no chance in hell there's no improvement whatsoever. The same players are in the same spots last year and there's no new coaches. No new kids coming up through the ranks.
I'm just going to say frick it and not even show up to any games.

I can't help but wonder if Saban or Meyers loses a couple, if the posters on this board would consider them as being stupid.
It's been talked about. They get passes. It's because neither of them have ever had a 8-4 season.....wait.
Funny thing is, if Brantley goes down at some point this year, posters here will be making excuses for Meyer. Which would be hilarious.

The reason? Communication...these coaches have the appearance of having things under control and that they are going to fix it, that they know what the problems are. Les Miles? Not so much.
You can argue all day that it doesn't matter, but it does matter. Perception goes a long way towards forming people's opinion of you. Once they get that opinion of you and it becomes hardened, it's very difficult to move them off of that spot until you can prove them wrong by winning again.
That's where we are at with Miles and LSU right now. It's really not that difficult to figure out.

Dukev I totally agree with every thing u said. I hope we are wrong but I will not hold my breath.

quote:I would say that there is a POSSIBILITY that some positions WILL be better this year, but it's unproven at this point. Until the season starts we will continue to argue our positions. Most of us HOPE that the positions will be better, but we do not KNOW that for a fact, nor do we have enough confidence in our current staff to PREDICT that as we have in past years. In the past, even WITH Les Miles as coach, I have predicted us to lose no more than 2 games in every year from 2005-2008.
I guess that's that then. There's no need to let the season play out at all. What's the point of even playing?
The last 2 years I have been very very wrong. Now I have a wait and see attitude, and a prove it to me attitude. I am not going to give Les Miles any credit for the last 2 years debacles, he's going to have to show me what he can do this year, then I will give him all the credit in the world.
FWIW, I THINK we will be very good in the secondary, better at QB, and good at WR. I am NOT convinced that we will be any better on the D line or O line, and RB will probably be about the same. LB's may actually be better if Chavis does what he has done in the past with the Linebacking corp.

Isn't that the case every year in college football? You have new guys move on and replace them with younger talent. There's ALWAYS something unproven.
I agree with you for tge most part, although I do think the OL and)'s will be improved. Fact is, if the OL improves, the running game improves. I think Blackwell is going to be far and beyond what Hitt was. Still not sure about Hurst, because I have no idea where the hype is from. I'm really excited about Michael Ford.
frick perception. You and I and everyone here wants results. ....people say that that team last year was talented.....and that's just not the case. IMO, with the way that team played and still ended up with 9 wins is a success in itself. Not what you guys wanted, but it was. You guys hang on to shite Miles says to the media and it boggles my mind why you guys do it. (The OL comment from last year. It was last year. Time to move on. Its just something you guys continue to choose to go back to.)

If the OL line is even 30% improved over last year look for this team to have some success. But as we all know, freshmen/new OL's in the SEC their first year hardly ever have breakout years.

The team WAS talented last year, they were just raw and unproven, they were also not coached very well.

I love my tigers i always want them to win no matter whos coaching but i think if miles and crowton dont leave our players full potentials wont be met...yes our players are good but the coaches make the calls the decisions and they are stuck with it...crowton sucks im sorry he used a handful of plays instead of being creative or useing any strategy it was pathetic the defenses knew what to expect.
miles was good the first couple yrs but the ole miss game just proves to me hes willing to throw anyone under the bus even HIS OWN PLAYERS thats not a coach thats not a leader and that certianly isnt the way we do things at LSU
but again i hope we have a great season and im optimistic but i also am in reality
MILES AND CROWTON NEED TO GO

I agree with you. I said the same thing last year. We will be better, because we won't have as many pick sixes. Yet instead of that, we had a ton of sacks and could not run the ball. We need to be able to run the ball first and then that will open the passing game. If our o line can both run and pass block, we should have no problems keeping jj free from sacks.

Ths thread is just another example of the LSU fanbase having a "sky is falling attitude". My father is an Auburn Alum that lives in Baton Rouge and he said our fanbase is beyond idiotic.
We are like the anti-Bama fanbase.
Bama could be fricking horrible, but their fanbase still think they are kings of the college football world.
LSU could win a Natuonal Title and still find things to bitch about.
The main point is that LSU will be competing for the SEC just like the programs of Florida, Bama, and Georgia. All four have flaws and we will just have to watch this season to see go comes out on top.
I think Auburn is a dark horse. Arkansas will fall on their face.
On a side note people need to look at Bama. They have a completely average QB and overrated set of WRs. They also lost basically their whole defense(which was a big part of the team's identity). Is the Bama fanbase being all bitchy about it? No! They still think they are the team to beat.

I was pretty down on Meyer following the gators debacle vs Michigan. It was a bit premature, so I am not ready to write off Les Miles just yet. I don't have nearly as much confidence as I once did however. My biggest beef has been in season adjustments the last two years and I haven't seen any. Hoping Les and Gary have had an epiphany of sorts and become more willing to see the big picture and make some changes in the offensive gameplans.

Leadership was an issue in 2009. That usually starts at the QB position and we didn't have it.
The O Line played bad, Black and Hitt were supposed to be the anchors there and that didn't happen.
Leadership breeds confidence, blocking leads to a viable run game... you can't be great witout both. We were O'fer in those areas and the rest of the problems were a sympton of that.
I think the records set in the weight room are a result of a change in attitude. You don't get stronger without being motivated to hit the iron day after day. A prolonged effort is a good sign of those things that make a team tough, smash mouth, etc.
So - I disagree. I think if you look and have the ability to discern what you are seeing, one should come away with ample reasons to be ... wait for it... OPTIMISTIC.

BOTTOM LINE is that. WE HAVE talent
Having talent hasnt been the problem in a quite a while, somethings gotta give because im tired of reading this statement and saying it myself. Im starting to wonder if i'm crazy for thinking how much talent is on LSUs sideline.
Our schedule is brutal; its going to be an 8-4 year unless something has drastically changed in a year, at certain positions.

Compared to Florida? Bama? Georgia? It is probaly a wash against all 3.
Take off the P&G Glasses.

But who cares what people's perception of our team is? Or more importantly, our coach? Besides the few pollsters(who have never hurt us due to their negative perceptions), the only people whose opinions really matter are recruits, their parents, and other potential coaches. And since Les keeps being able to hire good coaches and recruit good players, who cares about the rest?
Now I do agree with you about Les not being a great communicator to the fanbase, and that he could be better at easing anxiety about the state of the program. It makes the non-football part of his job harder, but I just can't see how it correlates to actual wins or losses on the field. As long as he can communicate to his staff and players, isn't that all that really matters?
LSU fans have a bizzare inferiority complex--I think a lot of it has to do with the perception of Louisiana as a state and how we're kinda looked down upon by every other state not named Mississippi or Alabama. But so many LSU fans self-worth seems wrapped up not just in how good or successful the football program is, but how others perceive it.
And that really manifests itself in the attitudes toward the football coach, whom a lot of folks seem to think represents them as individual people. If a coach is liked and respected, they themselves feel more liked and respected. Without question(whether they admit it or not or are even consciously aware of it), there is a large portion of the LSU fanbase that would rather go 8-4 with a respected coach than 10-2 with someone who's considered mediocre. For some reason it matters to them what Joe Blow from Knoxville thinks about their coach, or if John Smith from Athens has him on their top list of eventual replacements at Georgia. It shapes how they see themselves. Personally, I could give a shite what anybody outside of LSU thinks about Les, LSU, whatever. Especially knowing they are just as retarded as some of the LSU fans represented on this site.
Anyway, I used to think this all this was sad, but I'm more fascinated by it now. I wish somebody would research it, the psychology of the collective inferiority complex shared by a lot of Louisiana natives. Would be neat.

just another parrot squawking someone elses opinion. big fricking deal how we're perceived every team in the conference sans UF and maybe Bama would our performance over the past 5 years with theirs. most in the nation would too.
