Maybe they have a bigger lead. What if the next batter after the lead off double gets a hit? And then you score that run without giving up an out. You can't just play the game if, they only scored because they bunted. This is a team that hits over .300 so we can't just assume they won't hit.
Or maybe they ground into double plays and give away two outs with nothing to show for it. They’re obviously a ground ball team. If you’re going to hit a lot of ground balls you better be moving guys off first base.

But I'm specifically talking about bunting.
This thread is about the style of ball that Wofford plays. Bunting is just a piece of that.

I'm not living in a fantasy world though where we can just make up what happens. I'm saying it's a bad move because it's been proven over and over again that it is. Look, tie game in the 7th or 8th, fine bunt. But just wanting to give yourself a 1-0 lead early in the game, whenever LSU can mash, you need more than that 1 run.
It’s been proven over and over again at the highest levels of baseball. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have a place at ANY level of baseball.
Mike Leach never won a national championship with the air raid but he won a shite ton of football games. Some teams are just trying to win games not nattys.

Ground into a double play with 0 outs and a lead off double? That's specifically a play I've been talking about.

My reply was directly to a person talking about bunting.

Cool. Well it didn't work for them today.

So bunting people around the bases and using deep fly balls to score runs from 3rd base is sissy ball, huh? That's called playing the game right, every manager would tell you the same thing.

This. And they did that when it was 0-0 early in the game no less. They played not to lose and didn’t play to win
Yeah but the rants 10U teams win tons of rings by bunting 15 times a game, in every situation. College baseball is just a notch above 10U travel ball, so the same things should still apply.

So many times we waste lead-off doubles. It was impressive to see them bunt the runner to 3rd, then sac-fly him in. Next guy ropes a singe while we are still in our feelings. Steals 2nd. Then gets driven in by a clutch 2 strike RBI single. That’s fantastic. They also never strike out. Nothing but respect.
I respect the way they lost at the end.

It's not 1980 anymore.

They’re definitely grinders. Old school baseball. Painful to play against.
