That was the difference in the game. Hurts plays on the first TD drive vs Etling's inability to execute opportunities.

We won every other position on the field I believe. I appreciate Etling's grittiness and toughness and what he's capable of but he's just not cut out for this stage which leads me to the main question....

Why can't LSU recruit a QB or simply a football player. Screw the 'talent' and 'athlete' approach and recruit a damn football player to play QB. It shouldn't be this difficult.

If we had the kid from Troy we would've won by double digits.

This is a prime example that numbers lie. Hurts' passing numbers don't represent the impact he made in the game. When I hear some of the idiots on this board drone on about Etling's numbers and dismiss his play on the field, I just have to shake my head in amazement.

We have capable QBs waiting in the wings. Just gotta get them acclimated to the speed of the SEC. Brennan will get developed between now and next September and Coach O and staff will go after O-lineman and we will see improvements next year. The weakest link that I see this year and for the past several years is QB.

Both dline and oline position groups have been a huge issue for years now. At this point, the coaching staff will have to do a major upgrade to the 2018 recruiting class if it is going to change in a meaningful way in the short term.

Hurts' father was his high school football coach. Coaches' son gets groomed to play quarterback from a very young age. Pedigree should be a factor in recruiting. LSU has not determined what type of QB it wants. There is an outcry for a dual-threat(no, unless "pedigee" suggests it). LSU has also had more left-handed QB's on the roster in recent years than right-handed. Since teams are built LH or RH (best blockers on the left side of the line for a RH QB), this makes no sense to me.

This is a new question They recruit them, they just haven't developed them. Or maybe they crown a starting QB without truly giving everyone a shot.

That's don't recruit QBs. They recruit 'athletes' and track stars with an arm. Recruit a damn football player. I don't give a shite what his 40 time is. Is he a good QB?

Les Miles shite down the kb position, and offense while at LSU. Every major qb recruit was giving Les Miles 2 middle fingers.

Etling is a good quarterback, above-average, but seems to mentally and physically collapse when the pocket closes and gets tight. I would say that's how most college quarterbacks react when in a pressure situation like that. Then there are the exceptional quarterbacks who don't, and LSU just doesn't have an exceptional quarterback

It's just that simple. Our true freshman that are playing on the offensivd line will continue to be smarter, stronger, and More Physical over the next coming years and Myles Brennan should Excel...and also Lowell

You my friend have figured it out . That has been a problem for several years. Recruit real QB's.

The problem last night wasn't OL. Etling had plenty of time. He just got shook when his first read wasn't wide open and took his eyes down off of the field.

True statement. I sat and watched Dak Prescott today. I cannot forget the he wanted to play QB at LSU and was told that he wasnt good enough to be a QB in the SEC. Wonder what chrystal ball they were looking at when they told him that? Imagine where LSU would have been with that caliber of QB?

The reality of this situation is that Danny boy can't throw the ball short, intermediate. or long. In addition, he focuses on one receiver, and fails to go through progressions like a real QB should. I am sick and tired of hearing about how tough and gutsy he is. He doesn't have it point blank period. That was the difference in the game last night.
I am hoping that the coaches open up the competition for this position during the spring and not just hand it over to Brennen. LSU would do very well with good dual threat QB.

This is the part that baffles me. He's a 5th year senior who is a supposed film rat but he can't check down to a wide open back.

I don't think this is so. Harris, Jennings, Perrilloux, Lee, Mett, et al were all highly recruited QBs.

Because no one in their right mind wanted to destroy their careers by playing for Les Miles'. We also lost numerous wide receivers for the same exact reason. Several of them who are the best receivers for their new teams today at SMU, TCU, and Oklahoma State.

Mett signed with Georgia. The only reason he ended up at LSU is because he got drunk and assaulted a judges' daughter.

He's another Danny Etling as far as mobility goes. We need a true dual threat. All the best teams in recent years had dual threats.

Canada and O must somehow overcome the Les Miles stigma and find us some true dual threats.
