Here is my post from a earlier thread, and I think this is the case.

quote:

On paper it should be a close game, that is low scoring. However, things hardly ever go the way you think they will. Too close to call IMO for sure.

It's who prepares well, shows up ready to play, keeps playing hard, doesn't let up, and doesn't make mistakes that will win this game.

If one team does all of these things way better than the other, it could be a blow out. If they both do it poorly, it could be a close sloppy game. If they both do these things well it could be a great close game. If one does all or some of these things just a little better than the other, then it could be a 7-10 point game.

huge part of the game. LSU has 3 turnovers all season...easily best in the country. I think a few teams have 5 turnovers...but it's an insane stat.

If LSU doesnt turn the ball over...It's gonna be very close. We cant turn it over at Bryant denny...period..or it will get ugly quick.

Turnovers, Stupid Penalties, Blown coverages, Clock management, etc, etc, etc. Mental Toughness as (excuse my language) Saban would say. Doesn't matter what you call it, both teams need to be on top of their game in that regard.

Seriously, you dont think Brokers, Freak, Logan, could take him down??? TD is impressive, no doubt..... but he aint The Terminator!! Really, I think we contain him, he will get some, but this Tiger D will take this whole TD issue as a personal challenge.... and they will answer the call, there will be bodies flying!!! Lets wait and see....

Maze is just as important IMO.Not worried about his punt returns bc Wing is too good. Kick offs better go through the inzone though. Secondly, Maze will be depended on to stop us from stacking the box which Richardson, which will limit his effectiveness. The issue I have is that Maze is too tough of a tackle to make for our Cbs this year 1 on one (with consistancy). PP7, no problem, but Mo isn't half the tackler, and frankly, niether are T-Rex or Simon from what I've seen. He's their RR.

I agree he is like having an all conference LB, to be able to pin the opponent deep and force them to drive the field against our D, is a huge statiscal advantage.... and I agree it will be one of the deciding factors.... IMO

Na, we fixed that (how shitty the offensive line was playing) except when we decide not to play hard...like the first half of the UT game. TR got almost all his yards and both TDs in the 3rd against UT, then he was on the bench for the 4th.

Ok a few questions

1. If the O line is now so great and able to support TR, who without argument is a beast, why is your redzone offense so inneffective?

2. If TR is unstoppable, even with poor O line, why is redzone offense so inneffective at scoring touchdowns specifically?

3. Do you really believe that
quote:

we decide not to play hard
is the reason the score was tied at the half? It couldn't be that the AL line finally wore down the Tenn D? (this wont happen with LSU)

quote:

TR got almost all his yards and both TDs in the 3rd against UT, then he was on the bench for the 4th

TR scored wtih 3:19 left in the 3rd and 9:27 left in the 4th He has also been in the game in the 4th against every major opponent you have faced. He has scored 4/17 TD in the fourth including one against UNT.

4. If TR and the mighty AL O-line is so stout in comparison to LSU, why did LSU rush for nearly 100 more yards and 1 more ypc on the road than AL did against the same Tenn team AL faced at home the following week (pre softened by the LSU D)?

The reverse of course is true though, we faced Fla at home one week after AL and managed 130 yrds less rushing and 0.4 ypc less than AL.

The combined 3rd and 4th down conversion rate against these two common opponents is 14/27 (51.9%) for LSU and 15/29 (51.7%) for AL.

The final point margin for these two opponents was also similar with LSU having +61 and AL having +59. However, at the half the point margin for these combined opponents was quite different with LSU +31 and AL only +14.

If you look at the other big opponents we have each faced (Org/WVU) and (Penn/Ark) the stats are once again very similar. LSU had a first half point margin of +23 where AL had +24 and a LSU had a total game point margin of +39 and AL +40.
Combined 3rd and 4th down conversions for LSU were 14/31 (45.2%) and 15/32 (46.9%) for AL. Total yards were similar with LSU at 806 361 of which were on the ground and AL at 756 with 393 rushing.

5. How can anyone clearly make the argument that the AL rushing game is better than the LSU rushing game when you look at similar opponents and compensate for schedule?
