Its coming around, they've scored runs in the 1st inning in 5 of last 7 games.

Katz is on fire. Why move him around while he is on? That's just plain dumb

You know what's dumb? To think moving him up one spot would cool him off.

You never know, some players might get comfortable in the position they are in and if it messes with their routine they're off. If only we could get an ex-players input.

The only validity you would have to this is if they were at the bottom of the order and it was proposed to move them to three hole where they might see a different sequence of pitches and it might become tougher. Thinking he would cool off by moving him from fifth to fourth is pretty foolish.

He's not the hitter his numbers make him out to be. I'd much rather Chinea in the lineup. That's just my opinion.

What do you base that on?

he certainly could cool off.

you see different pitches batting in different points of the lineup. Depending on situation and who is hitting in front of behind you.

It's not a given fact that he would, but history and statistics show that this is indeed possible.

I wish we could go back to Skips philosophy, and have two lead off men. One and five, then two power guys 4 and 8.

I guess you just felt like taking a portion of my entire comment and trying to correct it like usual. Moving from fifth to fourth in a college lineup isn't a HUGE change. The sequence of pitches probably isn't going to change that drastically that he is going to all of the sudden cool off and not be able to hit. Mason Katz isn't exactly a secret anymore. I don't think the sequence of pitches is going to change on him individually no matter where he hits in the lineup more than likely.

Just dont call it foolish. Do you want to see examples?

It happens. So guys are just more comfortable in a certain spot.

Of couse he would still be a good hitter. But he may not be as good.

This is one of those threads that the game thread guys jump on so that when PM makes the move they can all look like geniuses.

No kidding. I clearly said that pitches could be different, etc. in certain spots of the lineup. If you weren't always just worried about trying to jump in and be a dick you would have seen that.

In the OPs example you are moving him from hitting behind a guy hitting .327 with 1 HR and 22 RBI to hitting behind a guy with a .442 average 3 HR and 24 RBI. The guy behind him is the same in both scenarios. Not even taking into account the fact that everyone is aware of Katz and the damage he is currently causing, that isn't going to cause some huge paradigm shift in the sequence of pitches Katz sees during the course of an at bat.

Yes, for others it could cause a decrease in production, but the evidence in this situation would lead an individual to think the protection around Katz would be very similar, if not, possibly even better.

I don't think there is a single person in this thread that actually thinks this will happen or even needs to happen. It is clearly just a thought from the OP.
