Obviously I don’t want to take someone’s spot that’s been there for years, so how do we go about getting a spot?

If you are looking for a place to become your go to tailgating spot, spend the first game scouting spots instead of tailgating. Wherever there isn’t a party set up for that game is fair game the rest of the season imo

I don’t very get out there much, but this is something Ive always wondered about. People who have been in the same spot for years, they just get there first every week? What if someone goes ridiculously early and takes “their spot”? Knuckle checkin time? What’s the etiquette?

This. Now if I have been in the same spot for years and as well as others around me I will out of courtesy not set where they do if I know they are coming to the game. But for the most part I claim a spot for the first game of the year and stay there all year.

Ok so how would I claim a spot Friday evening, leave it over night and come back Saturday morning? What should I set up to save a spot? Would anyone move my shite?

Friday evening is usually reserved by the tailgate tent - just the poles not the cover.

I’ve seen people chain to a tree with a padlock, but for the most part, if it’s not already claimed by a long-timer, no one would move your stuff.

Technically there s a 5:00 set up time, but you'll see frames in some areas on Thursday

So just put up the poles not the whole thing Friday and possibly chain it to something? I should be able to come back Saturday morning and it be all good? Surely by dusk Friday evening if there’s a long timer spot, they’ll already have something marked right?

Go early sat and set your shite up. There’s no reserved spots by seniority. The long time locals will adjust there shite 20 feet as most reasonable humans would. Some of you people think you’ve got to set your chair straddling the same root every game...

Yes but one exception. If you are going to set up on Friday don't show up after 9 or 10 in the morning and be surprised if your stuff hasn't been moved and the spot claimed. Obviously the bigger the game the earlier you should get out there on Saturday morning. Doesn't mean your entire crew needs to be there but at least have one person show up early to be on site.

The key is to get to know the people in the area. We tailgate with some folks that drive in friday night from North Louisiana. They get a hotel and stay the weekend. They will set up late friday night and get out there real early on saturday. Like I said get to know the people around you and it also depends on where on campus you are wanting to set up.
