Chuck, the only thing in his whole post that he got right was that he grew up in Opelousas. I'm sure he wouldn't get that wrong.

The UF -FSU thing is particularly funny. We (the LSU cabal) aren't going to allow USLILL rise to an equal footing like Florida did in the late seventies with FSU. We are constantly at work behind the scenes to keep that from happening.

No. And last I saw (this may have been two years ago) Monroe and La Tech(Tier 3) were ranked higher academically than ULL(Tier 4).
That is the problem, ULL supporters assume they are the flagship and don't give a crap that they really aren't close. They have more pride over who they think they are than their real accomplishments. If they ever find the drive to actually do more with what resources they get (such as LSU has improved what its done with available resources over the years) and actually made ULL academics (and athletics to a lesser degree) clearly superior over any university in the UL-system, well then a lot more LSU and non-ULL supporters across the state would respect the whole UL ridiculousness, even if ULL still wasn't the official flagship of UL-system at that point.

and just to put in 2 more cents in a dying thread:
I would support ULL athletics more (go to a weekday game, attend a football game on an LSU bye week) if there weren't so many assholes in ULL colors.
Don't tell me they are a minority. That's the same minority that ULL fans use to judge LSU fans.

frick ULL and their fans. They're nothing and will never be anything. Just think if LSU would win the SEC in football and the best they could do was travel to N.O. to play in the New Orleans bowl.

UTA is in Arlington. UT is the larger and flagship school of the UT system, so they get to and are encouraged to do it. ULL is not but feels they need to do so anyway regardless of ULM

Look, the Cajuns wanted a state tag rather than a regional tag. I can understand that and even respect the play. You wanted to make a move that you saw as a positive/next step forward for a growning school/area and you got it. Props to your school and its fans.
Then, others within the state, for whatever reason, questioned the play and stopped it after the fact. Hey, that's a real pisser and I can understand the anger/bitterness it generated within the Cajun family. If the shoe was on the other foot, I would have been mad/bitter as well.
Thing is, it happened 25 years ago and I would have gotten over it longggggggggggg ago and with all due respect, so should many of you guys. This continual push to be seen as the "UL" of the ULS outside the Lafayette area is unseemly and really counter productive to generating good will within the state, but each to our own.
You can say you could care less, but your referencing "Battle for a name" says otherwise.
And if you think its only "the LSU bunch" who opposed your play 25 years ago or who still today doesn't want the Cajuns honored with the title/tag "UL", you have a limited understanding of the Louisiana college landscape. imo

An LSU fan calling any other fanbase "assholes" might be the funniest thing I've ever read on the internet. There's a reason so many people around the country hate LSU and why LSU makes "worst fans" lists.
Also, I think we'll be just fine without you gracing us with your presence. It was satisfying watching Alex Box clear out halfway through the game; sometimes you just gotta take your arse whooping.

It's funny when yall try to trivialize the attitude some people have in Laffy yet say "LSU fans are assholes". How about this: How about every ULL fan that degrades LSU (LS-who) stop being a whiney bitch and just accept that there is a better funded, athletically superior school in the state and get on with life. These facts take nothing away from ULL.

Lets be real here Hendo. There is no reason to hate LSU just as there is no reason to hate ULL. The problem comes in when LSU fans act like asses and ULL fans detract from LSU for no reason other than jealousy.
Every bad LSU fans story I hear is always from someone's brother's experience. I discredit most of them mostly because I bring ULL fans to every LSU/ULL game and none of them are even looked twice at. I'm sure an a-hole did something to a ULL fan, but when you hang near the wrong crowd it's gonna happen.
My experience (and the reason I will not attend another ULL game) happened 2 years ago. When the stadium announcer was running through the state scores, every winning state school was booed and every losing state school was cheered...including LSU's deficit at halftime to Auburn. Not everybody did it, but a majority of the students.
It's not pretty to be that jealous.
And you are wrong. If ULL wants to improve their athletic department, then they need to sell more tickets. Telling me that you don't need my money when I would be cheering for ULL is...well...a classic ULL attitude.

i guess the name change thing really does piss LSU off, seeing that its 2 days and 213 posts later. I guess it really does make people think that they are getting their monies worth for sending a kid to get the almighty LSU name on their graduation certificate, thats if they even attend LSUBR.

I really don't understand the name complex people have. Many schools have a blank State University , and a university blank. Such as Florida & Florida State, Oregon, Oregon state, miss & miss state, Arkansas & Arkansas state. I don't see the big deal

Its because in most states, the University of _____(insert state name) is the 'flagship' university, except in the case of Louisiana. LSU has been given the designation of the flagship university, except its named Louisiana STATE. Should any other school become known at the University of Louisiana, it would take away from their 'prestige'.
