I expect a bit more than one good season and I’m not stupid enough to think that this season is hinged on Coach O.

Will have to see how he does after the legend of Joe Burrow leaves.
If he can keep us in contention next year, I’m supporting a nice raise

I'll ask again, how do contracts work? Maybe a little hard for you, but who has the leverage in this situation?

It depends on if he has any legitimate suitors that would offer him the same opportunity to do well as LSU does. That's what negotiations come down to. What are the alternatives available to both sides? Which side has more abundance of quality suitors? That's the side that has the leverage.

Some fans seem to be losing sight of what’s bred the success and what the template Orgeron signed off on and was a partial producer of was. The plan was for Orgeron to take less and make his money over time, if he could earn it, while his lower salary would free up money to go out and keep us stocked with top line coordinators, assistants and analysts. It’s working so why would we upend it now? If Orgeron keeps having success he’ll be rich beyond his wildest dreams by sticking around for 10-15 years anyway. I don’t understand this fan bases obsession with trying to place individuals above the program, it’s so odd.

I fully acknowledge that O has done a great job, but remember that Gene Chizik, Larry Coker, even Mack Brown won national championships.

Raises are a business decision. Remove all emotion. O isn’t going anywhere, so no need to give a raise.

He's going to get a raise.

All that people are saying that the number should be driven by market forces. LSU shouldn't bid against themselves.

And remember that it was his idea to get paid less so that his coordinators get more. That was his idea.

“Here's the thing, the same people ITT today against a raise were the same people freaking out about his modest raise last year”

You just defeated your own argument. Yes it was stupid to give him a raise last season, the argument was that 2019 was the projected “prove it” year. Now the people you’re criticizing have only been proven right not fools as you’re suggesting. LSU should’ve waited until after this year to make a decision on Os contract.

He’s the 30th highest paid. Should be no lower than top 10-15.

I think he is very deserving of a raise however the administration will be dumb to give him a large sum of money because he will not leave for another school

What is left on his current contract?

Why give him a raise yet? He's at the best situation possible.

This year is amazing, but next year can be really telling post Burrow. I expect LSU to continue to dominate, FWIW.

I am proud of O and expect him to be the coach for a very long time. He's building something really special here.

Exactly.

I'm sure most will agree he is earning a pay raise, but I definitely am no fan of huge buyouts and whatnot.

I just wonder what is left on his current contract. Next year to me is a good year to really work off of. Wasn't he just extended this year for a couple of years?

I just can't see a single school O would leave LSU for. Especially not USC.

Also for people that feel he deserves it. He literally has incentives in his current contract that reward him for winning a national championship and playoff games.. so he would be earning it with his current contract.

Should get a generous bonus, but not a raise. The entire model is based on playing the HC less and the assistants more.

Unless we can pay O like Saban and still pay Brady and Aranda, we should stick with bonuses.
