re: How much money does LSU owe Miles

This is a ridiculous statement. Les Miles is under a contract with a buyout clause. Under that contract, if LSU wants to terminate Les Miles employment before his contract is up, they have to do so by paying him his buyout unless Les Miles does something or something happens that would qualify as cause to fire him under the terms of his contract.
Integrity and honor don't have anything to do with it. LSU is just as at fault as Les Miles for offering him such a ridiculous contract in the first place.

And Im sure you would just walk away from $14 million.

Saban's last season wasn't all that great
we lost 3 juniors early to teh NFL and at that point our program could not sustain the loss
saban had to build LSU up, and in 2004 we simply did not have the elite depth to withstand those losses

how much did you give your boss back every time you got fired?
how many times did you resign b/c someone didn't like your work?
he earned the money b/c the n.c. gave him a bonus per his contract.
and yes, you can go back and blame anyone you want (even go back a 1000 years) but every coach has the same bonus in their CONTRACT.

miles was given the keys to a program with insane depth and after losing his QB of the future, he took 2 seasons to fricking claw back (and may not have clawed his way back yet. TBD)
saban left miles with JR and Flynn, as RS sophomores with 3 years left to play.

If Brantley gets hurt in the 1st game this year, what happens at Florida? 4? 5 losses? Take a look at the depth at QB there.

Les Miles is under a contract with a buyout clause

it's not an excuse for miles, and it's not an excuse for meyer
it's a complete gamble in program building

2001 was our first major recruiting coup. sabes then built up depth little by little until this
2 of the 3 juniors who left were part of that 2001 super class
so yes. 1 year mattered a great deal

$8-9M or so

Maybe not, but, IYO, what would be the results?
I know it's not an excuse, but RP did leave the situation in shambles. At least Brantley loves pancakes.

I'm not sure it's even that much.
If the contract really hasn't been rolled over, then I read it to expire on December 31, 2012. That'd be 2 seasons after this one. So by my math, all he'd be owed is 2 season's worth of salary, LESS whatever he earns over that time frame.
So if he got a job someplace else in 2011, whether at the Big 10 Network or replacing Hawkins at CU, the total buyout could easily be under $6 million.
Another kicker - it's not owed in a lump sum. The contract allows it to be paid on the normal LSU payroll schedule (15th and 30th of month?). So it's not like Todd Graves or Richard Sturlese would have to cut a 7 figure check on the day Miles got the boot.

how?
he's extended through 2012
may be an old link, but i find nothing new
he's avg of about $4M per
so after 2010, he's got $4M in 2011 and $4M in 2012 (give or take a lil extra in there)

we lost our 2 best offensive players and our 2nd best defensive player
miles has been in the shitter for 2 years b/c of a single QB leaving (who hadn't proven anything yet)
