Actually, I have been hearing that the pitchers are liking the new ball. Good movement on FB and sliders, but fewer blisters. Might hurt the big curve, but those are not as prevalent anymore according to the interviews I heard.

I think it was Kyle Peterson that said that the NCAA is just trying to get the Outfielders to play at a reasonable depth. Right now, they have no fear of getting a ball hit over their heads. If they back up, then you will also get balls falling in front of them for singles.

Nobody said gorilla ball dude. Even coach said that it will increase home runs by 15-20. Get over yourself

I heard that it won't make a huge difference... BUT

If you can deflate the ball a little, you have a noticeable advantage!

Fans are setting themselves up for disappointment if they think that the gorilla ball era is going to make a comeback just because of a .015" difference in seam height

Haven't heard of a single person expecting the return of Gorilla Ball. The laws of physics however, do apply with the lowered seams. Depending on wind factors, we can expect up to a 5% increase in distance on fly balls. This will serve to keep the outfielders much more honest than they've been for the past few years, allowing for more balls to drop in for singles which will certainly affect scoring. A three hundred foot fly-ball out last season may still just be a loud out. However some of those wall-banging doubles from past years will make the seats. More exciting games to be had, even without Gorilla Ball.

First of all the C.O.R. or coefficient of restitution to my knowledge is unchanged, so the ball is as lively or as dead as it was last year.

But drag will be different so yeah balls will definitely go farther, warning track to HR's shouldn't be outside of probability.

The ball that has was used last year, the raised seam ball, the seam height is .048 inches.

The flat-seamed they will be using obviously it isn't actually flat, the height of the seams are a little lower at .031 inches.

This flatter-seam height is consistent with the balls used in minor league baseball, but it is still a higher seam than what is used in the major leagues.

I would think there may be issues with grip, pitcher's may try to grip tighter? Could be problems with a pitcher overthrowing.

But these possible issues the trainers, coaches I would think are on top of this, having worked out or working out any possible issues for pitchers.

I asked my oldest son who is a D-1 pitcher and he said he loves the new balls. He's always had a lot of movement so the lower seams must not be affecting the movement too much if pitchers are liking the new balls.

Breaking pitches will not have as much bite for some pitchers

Again the pitchers on the LSU roster said they prefer it BC they can throw it harder and not worry about blistering. It will not make much difference in the pitchers, movement is all it affects. You can still pitch a very good curve without the ball biting hard. Good hitters will see it a little better but good pitchers can still change speeds and location to throw them off. Only seperation will be Average pitchers will throw average and same for the hitters means good for the Tigers. Also of course the baserunning will improve with more HRs. GT

Morons like you are why I stay away from the baseball threads "dude". First of all it's called hyperbole, not sure why the 4 different people that responded to me responded to something that was obvious exaggeration and didn't address any of the other points that I made.

Someone flat out said that he'd be happy with 60-70 HR's so let's just say that he thinks 65 is a reasonable number. Yall honestly expect home runs to go from 40 to 65 because the new balls travel 20 feet further when launched from a pitching machine? That's nice and all but it doesn't take into account all of the little things like the fact that rotation is going to be looser on curveballs so there won't back as much backspin coming off the bat which adds drag, plus the flight of the new balls is going to be more predictable because they won't be affected by the wind as much which is going to help outfielders, and even the difference of those two things is going to be negligible. Not really trying to get into a physics debate here but a .015 inch difference on the height of the seams isn't going to make us hit 20 or 30 more home runs.

And just to address your "coach paw said it so it has to be true" claim, coach miles said that DJ welter was one of the most improved players this offseason and how'd that work out? There's a difference between wishful thinking/coach speak and reality bud.

As I said, the balls might add 10% more to the home run total and production but I really need to get a hold of what anyone that thinks that we hit 40-50% more homers is smoking. Whether y'all want to agree or not, the problem is that the players are swinging bats that have a sweet spot the size of a walnut and feel crappier than swinging a wood bat and nothing's changing noticeably until they change the bat regulations

Not at all. Just can't stand the high post count crowd, 99% of y'all have absolutely nothing to contribute to most discussions and post nothing but emojis, lame one liners, and the same overused cliches to get your post count up. Go take that elsewhere
