Think about what will happen when we get a new coach and a good OC. We will be I. Running for best qbs. We already get elite rbs and wrs in la. CLM wasn't a great recruiter at OK. st.....LSU and the facilities are what get most of the recruits

That's my point.

We have plenty of stud running backs and receivers here in LA.

We can take CB's, LB's, and other kids from Texas with relative ease.

Give us a shot at a good QB, it's game, set, match.

Add a guy who will also coach the team and we're shittin in high cotton.

Agreed.

Everybody saying Miles is the end all be all of recruiting are kidding themselves.

I didn't say he was bad at it. I feel like we can do better though.

It will take a hit but the players will be properly utilized so it might be a wash.

It's been said plenty, but one more time won't hurt. There's very little room for improvement as far as recruiting goes.

But that's all the more reason to make things happen quickly. The longer it draws out the more likely we have a down year (because kids won't have time to meet the new staff and will decommit).

For all his faults, this is one Miles can't be beat up for. It can't get a hell of a lot better recruiting wise so my hope is we can at least maintain where we are now...routinely top 5-10.

In truth, Miles is one of the best recruiters around. I've always felt like Miles was called in life to be a recruiting coordinator, but he somehow got caught up in the head coaching world. If he was our recruiting coordinator and we had somebody who was actually good at making game day decisions to be our HC, we'd be unstoppable.

This is demonstrably false.

People are fooled by recruiting rankings but recruiting rankings don't factor in if you're actually able to land who you need. Technically speaking, you could be #1 in recruiting with an entire class of defensive lineman.

Also, recruiting services aren't terribly effective at identifying if a particular coach is finding that he has to "settle" for players other coaches are going soft on.

Basically, not all 4 star players are alike.

But, hell, if nothing else, all one need do is look at the QB position. There is really just no arguing that Les hasn't had an effect upon QB recruiting. I mean, J. McMillian has no business on an SEC Roster and look, I'm sure Scott was wonderful in high school, but it's not an accident that we were the only major school interest.

We're settling like mofos there and anyone who sincerely thinks Narcisse is signing with LSU needs their head examined. Or, to be blunt, if he does, it's because he's not as sought after as we think(see Brandon Harris)

Miles has had highly rated classes. But anyone looking on the field can see that he's left holes.

Exactly.

Like saying I have a Ferrari, except the clutch is broken and I can't find the tools to fix it. So, I'm gonna let it sit here and hope it goes 150mph one day.

Lotta people in this thread don't want to admit that he's failed at recruiting. Sure, he's had some great classes. But the team is always left wanting. That's a recruiting failure.

Doesn't matter who replaces him.

Kids knowing we have a someone willing to run a play other than a toss dive will load the program with talent.

Pretty cool to think about the future with a football coach.

Just wait.

First off, Miles is a great recruiter. The players, for the most part, love him.

We're not going to be that good in 2017 either way, unless we land Herman. Our recruiting will take a hit this offseason because of firing/hiring a new coach. Then, after a 8-4 or 7-5 season next year, good luck to that new coach on the recruiting trail.

Again, I don't think people understand that we are likely going to be down for a couple years after we let Miles go.

How long term we talking?

Remember Texas, Tennessee, and Michigan? All fired/let go of long-tenured coaches who had become stale at the program. Texas is the only one who didn't have to go through a coach or two to find the right guy. And we don't even know if he's the right guy yet.

Some of you are so oblivious to what could potentially happen here. Just because the Saban/Miles transition was as smooth as possible doesn't mean that's normally how these things work.

We'll take a hit for the first year or two but if you hire the right guy who wins, we should be close to the same level.

If we're all being honest, it's asinine to say Miles is anything but an excellent recruiter. He has many flaws but recruiting high school kids is not one of them.
