$1m

$2m

$3m

$4m+

I’m thinking that he’s going to need north of $5m to get who he wants.

That’s assuming you have that many stud players that actually enter the portal. There wasn’t a year ago.

High end hitters cost 300-500k, maybe a little more
Maybe you get discounts on in state guys

Starting doing the math. You need a lot of money to be good.

Goes into getting guys to campus instead of the draft also.

So let’s say we want top hitters 1-9 and use an average of $400k

9 x $400K = $3,600,000

Top pitching arms

Let’s say we want 5 stud SP and 5 great relievers and use an average figure of $550,000

10 x $550,000 = $5,500,000

So Jay needs $8,600,000 per year.

Got it!

It will be tougher to get a portal pitcher looking for a weekend starting role this offseason.

Last year was tough to pull middle infielders because most of them wanted to play shortstop, like the North Dakota State kid that went to UNC.

We don’t have an heir apparent shortstop so that should help in that regard. I like Laskofski from William and Mary.

We also need a corner OF. Two guys we played that could fit are Wachs from Tulane and Solitaria from Kent St.

I think we have north of that lined up. I don’t have exact figures. But its on the “minor league” level and above the college level.
This was not set up last season before the portal opened.
