Hold tightly to this thought GUMP....I don't care if he ever leaves Bama....but don't think for a second that Texas couldn't come up with a package that might at least tempt ol nicky into leaving T-Town.
No shite! What a profound statement. "Might at least tempt". That would apply to every single coach, ever.

Mxyllpyx, I know that you are from Alabama, but going from a NFL team to a college program would not be considered a lateral move? Some may even say that would be a demotion in career aspirations. BTW, what are the numbers on that pay cut. From my recollection, AL basically matched his NFL salary. Saban is the best college coach that money can buy
Come to think of it, Alabama is probably the closet thing to a professional team in college football, just ask the boosters and the recipients of their "generosity"

I agree with this. Bottom Line is that Saban is a control freak and wanted to try the NFL. He failed. He wanted to get CONTROL again and Bama had the right chance for him at the right time.

I respect him as a coach, and I'm grateful for what he helped to accomplish at LSU.
While I wished he hadn't left when he did, I actually was pulling for him to succeed in the NFL as it felt like it would also be a win for LSU.
However, when he willing courted and eventually took a college coaching job at not only an SEC program but an SEC WEST program, I hoped he'd get crotch rot...real bad. frick him with a chainsaw for that bullshite.
He was obviously free to do whatever he wanted to do, but I heard from enough people in the know at the time to know that the guy was GENUINELY clueless as to why LSU fans were so pissed about it. It never dawned on the guy that we might, you know, take it personally that he decided to take a job where, by definition, he would be working daily to tear down what he built here.
And, as someone said, I really dislike liars.

I hate the fact he felt the need to test the NFL waters and left LSU.
really..going from almost $4MM to almost $ 7.5 MM
...you do not see a need ?
He was paid well by LSU and he delivered, there is nothing to "hate"

To be fair. This is spot on. Miles could NOT have done at LSU from where it was when Saban got here ,what Saban did. He {Miles} has just kept it going.
I have to disagree with you, nothing he did was a miracle or "saving grace" of any kind. Like I said, he only had one season when he didnt lose at least 3 games or more. To the fans that want Miles fired, a 2-3 loss season is reason for a head coach's head to be on a plate. Just ask em.

That's your opinion.

Look at the things[aside from winning games] he did here. Think about it.

Facts are facts. He won a title and the 2001 team IMO could have given Miami a hell of a game the way they were playing at the end of the year.

I am NOT one of those fans. Do I want a championship every year?? SURE. But I know that will NOT happen. But Miles can stay here till he retires as far as I am concerened as long as he stays with the 10 win type seasons.

You are right. However, I don't think Miles had the future VISION Saban had. And I don' think Miles has the BALLS to put his foot down like Saban did when Saban was here.

Im not discounting that he did some good things for the program. He brought in a lot talented players. I just do not believe that it couldnt have been possible with Miles, or another great coach.

If you know what had been going on the 10 years before Saban got here you would understand. YES Gerry left Saban some decent players. But Saban put LSU on the MAP again.

Ok that's what ya think. But the personalities are different by a wide margin. What has Miles done here besisdes winning games and keeping the program at the same level. YES ,its hard to do for any coach at a school like LSU. But really??? What else has he done?

Another big myth is Saban raising LSU from the ashes.
Saban took over after Gerry DiNardo went 32-24 with three bowls and not after Curley Hallman went 16-28 with not one fricking winning season which is what NiNardo faced.
Saban was very good at LSU, but a coaching god he wasn't.

My question for everyone who works for a company is this...If you are listening to other offers and your boss asks you if you are entertaining other offers would you tell him yes before accepting another job?
i get your point, but people do this literally all the time with companies. they don't tell their companies necessarily they're interviewing, but they do tell companies they got X offer from another company. sometimes their current company matches the offer, sometimes they don't. the only difference is that a head coach's business is in the media.

dukke v "as long as he stays with the 10 win type season", so this year, if we don't win three more games, you'll stop being a pumper and join the rational fans who expect excellence from the LSU program. I hope we don't lose another game this year, but unemotionally assessing our program's performance so far this year, I would not bet on it. Without knowing who our post season opponent will be, it is plausible that we will lose two more in the SEC and finish fifth in the West. I would not call that excelleence. Would you?

Explain this... Like A championship EVERY YEAR??? What a dumbass you are.

If we lose to Bama ....YES its very possible that we lose to A & M. The team may lose some focus and give up. Which is unacceptable to me.

Its not worth $4 mil a year. But what does this have to do with hating Saban???? Saban is a much better coach and its not really close.

Posted on 10/31/13 at 6:44 pm to Mxylplyx
Mxylplyx "the assumption that Saban is motivated only by money which has no basis in fact", just curious as to how a Bamer fan's mind works... what motivated Saban to take the Alabama job?
Posted on 10/31/13 at 6:50 pm to rbdallas
rbdallas "almost $4MM to almost $ 7.5 MM", I may have the early onset of dementia, but I thought he left LSU at about $2MM for around $4MM with the pros. It wasn't until AL basically matched his pro salary that universities started paying pro-type salaries, i.e. $4MM

You mean excellence as in leading the nation's BCS schools in wins since 2005 or leading the SEC in wins since 2005 or being one of two teams to play in two BCSCGs since 2007 or winning 85% of our games since 2010 or being the only team in the nation to go undefeated in regular season OOC games in the last nine years?
That the kind of excellence you rational fans are looking for from LSU?
Guess what, rational fan, you already have that.

More like spoil and ungrateful fan.
