How long will the 60 passing TDs record stand?

Even though the game is definitely trending to more explosive offenses, I expect this record will stand for some time. The old record (58) was from 2006. The one before that (54) goes back to 1990.

Interestingly, the SEC record prior to this year was 44 by Drew Lock. Burrow shattered that one.

In today's college football? A decade at most.

I'd say 7 years. The game is evolving to huge offenses fast.

I could see a team like Oregon breaking it if they had a 15 game season, considering the kind of defenses they play against.

Hard to imagine an SEC QB ever sniffing it

I do not know, but as I told a co worker yesterday:

LSU played 10 games a season a long time, and 1 more if they went to a bowl.

Then it was moved up to 11 games + 1 if you went to a bowl.

Then 12 games and +1 if you went to a bowl, add in + 1 if you went to the conference championship game.

Now you play 12 + 1 for a bowl game, +1 in you get to the championship game, also + 1 for the playoff game if you make that game.

So
11
12
13
14
and
now
15 games

This took place in under 50 years, with 13-14-15 less than 20.

What will it be in 20 years from now?

Many records fall mainly due to the additional games, just like in pro football.

A team needs to average 4 a game "IF" they play 15. Gonna stand a loooong time.

Factors to consider:
Joe played 15 games to set the record. Not many QB’s will have the opportunity to play 15 games in a season.
Even though the game has changed drastically resulting in more passing, not many QB’s will have the arsenal of weapons Joe had.
Joe was ridiculously accurate.
LSU & Joe were amazing in the Red Zone.

I know records were made to be broken, but this one will be damn difficult to break.

I don't see it being broken unless a team plays, at minimum, 14 games. Just for argument's sake, Burrow averaged 4 TDs a game over 15 games. That's going to be a tall order even with the modern offenses of today. Even as good as Tua was before he got hurt, he threw 33 TDs in 9 games, which is still fewer than averaging 4 per game. You may see a guy like playing for someone like Mike Leach who throws the ball 80+% of the time flirt with it, but coaches like that more than likely aren't going to see 14 or 15 games in a season to reach 60. Like all records, I'm sure Joe's will eventually be broken but it's going to take a lot of things falling that player's way just like Burrow needed to get to 60.

You'd have to think that at some point the rules will change to help these Defenses out some, right?

If they have a coach who does not take the great starter out in the 3rd and 4th quarter like Coach O did, and the QB plays 14-15 games, then it could be broken easier than we imagine.

However, I say around 10 years it will last. The last were broken 17 years, then 14 years, next will be 10 as the trend goes downward

Clemson hasn't been able to do it with an easy arse schedule and 5 years of first round talent at QB. I don't see the record falling for a long time unless the playoff gets extended.
