With A&M replacing Arkansas as the regular season finale, I was hoping that the boot trophy could die a quiet and long overdue death. But then thinking about the SEC forcing that ugly magnolia trophy on the LSU/Ole Miss rivalry (because nothing represents SEC football like a big flower), do you think the SEC will try to force a trophy on the LSU/A&M game? I hope not...if you have to designate a meaningless trophy to [attempt] to drum up animosity, it's not a rivalry.

Hey, at least it's not another attendance thread.

but if forced upon us, should be something military related (at one time LSU had a larger Corps of Cadets than A&M)

A trophy is not necessary. I hope nobody gets that silly idea.

I think it will be something lame involving the Sabine River

I like it as a rivalry though. I think there is a bit of a rivalry between La. and Texas.

Could be for chance for BCS crystal ball if they would both be undefeated going into that game.

It doesn't need a trophy. It has all you need. Both teams hate each other with a passion. That will only grow if Ags keep recruiting like they are. Should be good stuff.

There is a Texas La rivalry. The Saints fans hate the Cowboys. It kinda matches that.

They'll end up playing for the Toledo Bend Trophy. It'll be a Billy, the Singing Bass.

quote:

The student body of each school started discussing the idea of an official rivalry game about a year ago. The two student bodies held a “Name that Rivalry” campaign for students to provide input on the name via text messaging. The Ole Miss and LSU student governments then voted in their respective Student Senates to name the rivalry the “Magnolia Bowl.” The two student bodies have since worked together to create a “Magnolia Bowl” trophy and logo.

The trophy was designed by LSU senior sculpture major Evan Trapp with input from the leaders of the two student bodies. The trophy is carved from bass wood with a stained finish. The game’s logo will be emblazoned on the base, as will all of the scores following the Nov. 22 game. The top of the base will have four wood-carved leaves cradling a bronze-cast magnolia flower.
