How is this team so inconsistent

Almost beat UK, sweep Ole Miss, sweep UF, beat UGA, beat WVU, drum Tennessee on the road....lose to Mizzou, MSU, AU and get destroyed by Tennessee in what was a must win game to stay off the bubble (Which we are squarely back on now).
This team drives me nuts, Johnny Jones has got to get this shite figured out with all the talent he is bringing in, otherwise he wont be bringing it in for long.

He can't get it figured out when he clearly is the problem!! A coach is responsible for his players being or not being ready!

it is a very puzzling team. They can play some really good ball at times and then other times they struggle to dribble. I think we have had some pumped up classes that have had some bust players in it/ players not polished enough. Martin and Mickey aren't polished ready to go players, they are talented. Our lack of a bench has prevented us from actually punishing players for bad effort.

Basketball gets plenty of resources. I do think the student section needs to go back to where it use to be but that has nothing to do with how this team enjoys losing to fricking horrible teams.

good players but half of them (martin, Mickey and patterson) have terrible basketball IQs
Mickey is soft, Martin has hustle issues on d and can get lost on O at times. Patterson takes bad shots way too often for his role.

We hire on the cheap in basketball. Always have. Coaching is everything. I want JJ to succeed, but that doesn't change the fact that we go lower shelf. Priorities.

I wasn't a huge fan of the way he was hired. He has done a good job rebuilding our roster so far. if Epps, big elbert and patterson all develop like TQ has then we could be really good next year.
I do wonder what has happened to his in game coaching though. He came in with a horrible roster his first year and I thought he actually did his best coaching job.
Mickey and Martin come in last year highly rated but they just weren't polished.
I do think nights like tonight make it hard to see the progress but we have moved forward with jones vs trent.

He better win and win a lot next year, especially if we miss the tournament once again this year...he will be run out of town really fast if he cant win with what we'll have next season.

Simmons probably buys him at least another 3 years. Trent got 3 years after just winning one game in the tourny with a loaded brady roster.
Jones being a LSU guy will be given lots of time. I think we win next year even with martin and mickey leaving. I wish martin would come back, mickey can go after his bullshite efforts the last few weeks

Yeah, but the 10-7 vs. 2-14 record bring that surging back... If LSU has to pick between a great X&O guy and lousy recruiter or a great recruiter and lousy X&O guy, give me the recruiter every single time... Talent can at least put you in the race

i wouldn't even give trent great x and o. I do wish jones would recruit and then in game show me some passion and let the assistants handle the tactics.

This team can beat or lose to any team on a given night. The main reason is street basketball and lack of reliable go to player. Mickey has no and Martin has little leadership ability to carry the team.

I started a thread earlier about this trend we have under CJJ with home finales. That may be a problem.
2013: Ole Miss: Marshall Henderson worked us that day.
2014: UGA: Not a good matchup at the time. We didn't play well that day, so it didn't matter.
2015: Tennessee: Probably the most inexplicable of the 3 home finales. This was an undersized team that was on a 5 game losing streak and absolutely nothing to play for outside of pride, and the felt right at home somehow.
This is a trend to watch going forward if LSU ever needs a victory for it's tourney resume late in the season.
