If you're leaving from BR, you shouldn't be on I-59. Take I-55 to Hwy 25 in Jackson. This coasts directly into Starkville.

DO NOT SPEED THROUGH CARTHAGE.

This. Two pit stops and I make it in 4 1/2 hours

The last stretch from I-55 to Starkville is painful.

However, once you get there, it doesn't get any better. The tailgating at MSU is basically non-existent. Probably as a result having NOTHING to do in that perfectly named fly trap of town, they do have a HUGE fraternity presence on campus. So basically you'll spend your afternoon getting harassed by rich, spoiled, bored frat boys. The last time I went, they fricked with a bunch of peoples cars. I ended up with a kicked-in door panel and broken side mirror. This was during the last years of the Croom era, so maybe since they are a "winning program" now, their greek fans have something to look forward to during game-time other than vandalizing property.

If you go through Meridian and have time, eat at Wideman's downtown, very good, or New's for a quick bite.
If you go through Jackson, have a great steak at Tico's. the owner is a huge tiger fan.
Don't speed, purple and gold attracts troopers. Just slap yourself every so often to stay awake.

No more than Louisiana!

As for the troopers, you have MHP troop headquarters in Jackson and Starkville, so you will likely see the majority of patrolmen between Jackson and Starkville on Hwy 25, so be careful. Hope everyone has a safe trip here and back. And, most of all...
