Do we keep one standing like a few states? Was this one recently selected (after the boys were charged)? I can't imagine that the DA can put one together in 48 hrs.
Sorry for the new thread, but the other has about 15 posts on the new development, and 23 pages of JJ v Lee.

Random selection, serve for six months meet on Thursday afternoon, not every week.
In Tangipahoa, probably different in some aspects, for Baton Rouge,

We send out request notes by Pirogue boat to the swamp people living far back in the Louisiana bayou.
They know where all the quick sand is.
Time consuming but effective.

Does anyone know who will present the prosecution's case to the grand jury?
Will it be Moore III or some assistant DA?
Does the DA always present to the grand jury?
An finally, how many bar fights has Moore III taken to the grand jury in the past?
Thanks in advance, Councelor(s).

I was hoping for Just Me or one of the other BR Attorneys to chime in.

Too early for the lawyers to be on the Rant, I guess. Maybe they will stop by on thier lunch breaks.

I'd like to comment, but I have no idea how Hillar runs his grand jury. Moreover, this matter hasn't received SOP anyway.
However, here is a question I'd love to ask the DA if it weren't Hillar: If you know you can't win at trial, why don't you just nolle pros it?

Maybe because it a high profile case ?

This is not on how the jury selection/time frame is handled but clarifies what a grand jury does.
"A GRAND jury, on the other hand has a different function. It is asked to decide only whether there is enough evidence to cause a person to be brought to trial for a crime. The grand jury hears only one side of the case, the government's, and it does not render a verdict. Its decision is an indictment, which is merely an accusation, or a decision that the person in question should stand trial to determine his/her innocence or guilt."
So, the grand jury will only hear evidence presented by the DA's office and decide whether there is enough evidence to bring the case to trial. Unglesby has no part in this process.

I actually understand that much. I was looking for insider particulars of our system. The info on Louisiana is good. BR DA's office under Hillar would have been better.
But thanks.

SOP would be reject bar fight charges.
Fame has worked against these guys, and I am one who is not a fan of JJ. I would like to see him 3rd string, but I can't deny, he has gotten a raw deal.
I don't know how Les will handle his return, but it will be the biggest challenge of the season.

Found this:
Art. 414. Time for impaneling grand juries; period of service
A. A grand jury shall be impaneled twice a year in each parish, except in the parish of Cameron in which at least one grand jury shall be impaneled each year.
B. In parishes other than Orleans, the court shall fix the time at which a grand jury shall be impaneled, but no grand jury shall be impaneled for more than eight months, nor less than four months, except in the parish of Cameron in which the grand jury may be impaneled for a year.
C. In Orleans Parish, a grand jury venire shall be drawn by the jury commission on the date set by the presiding judge. On the next legal day following the drawing, the jury commission shall submit the grand jury venire to the presiding judge, who shall impanel the grand jury. A grand jury in Orleans Parish shall be impaneled on the first Wednesday of March and September of each year.
D. A grand jury shall remain in office until a succeeding grand jury is impaneled. A court may not discharge a grand jury or any of its members before the time for the impaneling of a new grand jury, except for legal cause.

The part of this legislation that is usually not printed in the statutes says:
"The Grand Jury shall, if requested by the District Attorney, bring a true bill of indictment against a shrimp po-boy."

Hillar's in a tough spot if it's just Lowery's and his paramour's "testimony" against Jefferson.
If he nolle prosses it, he looks like he caved to pressure. However, I don't think the grand jury will do anything but return a true bill, thereby extending this charade through the end of the season. That would be a huge injustice.
