I get the importance of a third base coach but what real purpose does a first base coach serve? Especially in LSU's situation. Alex Edward just finished his playing days last year. How much more does he really know than the players? Do the guys on first really listen to him? I've always wondered this.

Note: in no way am I bashing Alex Edward. I'm just wondering how important a guy as removed from college as he is can be.

Those asses aren't gonna pat themselves.

And not just anyone can pass that shin guard back to the dugout.

There is no importance. If there was, Javi or Davis would be there.

They are more important than you think they are but not as important as they think they are.

A first base coach's job is to yell "BACK" once it's too late on a pickoff and to point to second if the ball gets past the first baseman.

Can help the runner out if they miss a sign.
