How good was 1998 LSU?

1998 and 2006 are the two most disappointing lsu teams in my memory.
It helps that I'm only 32.

If you meant 1998 and 2004, maybe, but not 2006.
2004 featured the bizarre once-in-a-lifetime XP interference pentaly at Auburn, and the shameful loss to Iowa on the last play of the game.
With a few breaks, LSU could have gone to Atlanta every year from 2001-2007, and should have gone 3 straight times from 2001-2003.

I was at LSU in 1998, and I don't remember hearing that at all. Kinda makes sense though, I never understood how that team went 4-7.

Not hard to figure out who it was. There were 7 players that took money.

2004 had QB issues.

2006 was ultra talented and should've won a NC. 11-2 was underachieving for that roster. Between Miles/Jimbo conservatism, Refgate, and the fluky Florida game the year was a big letdown. For me at least.

I remember the last drive that ended in a FG. My seats were low on the east side and it looked like Kevin Faulk was going to fly to the EZ on will alone. Then a penalty, then a drop, then nothing.

1999 was worse, we all knew the Dinardo era was over, but it was like they had to go through the motion of letting him coach one more year. WHY?.

We were lucky in 99 the Booty bootleg against Bama failed, or they would have let Dinardo stay another year. Then there would have been no Saban and the great LSU revival.

If the 1997 team had a halfway competent coach they should have been SEC Champions.
