re: How does the loss of Perkins affect your outlook on the rest of the season?

I’ve already been politely warned by the mods, so I’m going to be very careful how I phrase this.
Perkins stuck with the home team. I wish injury on no one & want to see him succeed.
That said, I think this is a blessing in disguise for Blake Baker. It was simply not an option for them to not play an upperclassman with his measurables.
But they were bending over backward to get him involved, and it was not working.
A few things to consider:
1) Simplifies playcalling
2) Early experience for young LBs
3) Not sure possible for anyone to come in and be less productive
Now look, I understand this is a brutally honest analysis in context of a season ending injury — but that doesn’t make it not an honest analysis.

The long TD run by the USCs QB was right down the middle. One DT was flipped on his back, the other was pushed from one hash to the other leaving a giant hole the QB ran right through. Again just watch any game, they’re getting whipped inside which makes it easy to suck the LBs in for help and leads to a lot of the perimeter runs.

Perkins was a bit of a fluke, lightning in a bottle. You went into the Arkansas game against a mobile QB, and you put basically a Jacoby Stevens- type player (Perkins) in at spy and told him to just rush and contain that mobile QB. And he did, spectacularly. And then he had another couple games where you just inserted him and created a physical mismatch somewhere; you couldn't block him with a RB in the pass rush.
But that doesn't make him an All American linebacker, or someone you could build a defense around. But House, and now Baker were basically forced to try to, because of that stretch of games. They HAD to make him fit. Now, unfortunately because of the injury, Baker's been freed up to use schemes, instead of trying to accommodate Perkins as an every-down player.
